  1. Hope you can hook up, I'm wondering if it's to light for it's own good.... Fully tubbing probably wouldn't do a whole lot for a car that light. Can you say extra weigh in the rear end? and slicks and every traction helping device you can get?
  2. Why hamper yourself with a manual transmission???? Go with a built Th-400 or 727, a manual trans. is just stupid because it hampers your ability to keep boost, and it will be a lot easier to drive. Plus the car will be more consistent. Also with all that power, you'd probably be replacing clutches all the time even if it's the strongest clutch you can get for our cars. What are you thinking for a rear end??? 9 inch is sounding about right for this combo..., oh and full tubbing too... If you do make the mistake of retaining a manual gearbox, what are you going to do, besides the clutch, to make it hold up to the power?
  3. Good info. I didn't catch anywhere in there to crank your engine 5 times then take the reading you get. That's how I was tought to do it. I was also tought to do it while the engine was cold to actually see what kind of condition things are in.
  4. Take your cars to a gravel pit, or landscape place that delivers stuff, and ask if they will weigh your car. They almost always let you, they often times might charge like 5 bucks.
  5. I dont understand what your saying vader. The 3.0 is a very torquey motor, and it being a forklift design I have herd before. They have used the motor in everything, from minivans to trucks and suv's to cars, and performance cars. It's almost like it replaced the 2.6 in a way.
  6. Besides how hard this swap would be, remember one thing, thats a mitsubishi 3.0 v-6. And what do we know about those???? HEAD GASKET CITY. I have almost the same motor in my Shadow (same block anyway), and they are renown for head gaskets. It's a cool idea, but the LS1 is the ticket. I have a buddie with a naturally aspirated stealth with the dual cam heads, and the head gaskets went in his car too. I happen to be doing the head gaskets i nmy car right now and WHAT A complain it is. I would not recommend this. You'd be better off building up the 2.6.
  7. Someone e-mailed me asking about this, and when I look at it, it's really un-feesable. I don't have a welder, I dont have any fabrication skills, and the car would probably tear itself apart. It sounds cool, but its not really worth it when you really think about it. A 350 would be A LOT better, but I just happen to be getting this 400 and 3 speed trans. for super cheep in decent condition. Maybe I should look for another car to put it in.
  8. I don't know about all this, but wouldn't a high end power engine be a lot better for our cars?? Punishing low end torque seems really stupid because these cars are light, and begin to have traction problems with mild power. That's why street bikes often times have bores twice the size of their stroke for useable power for their application. The 2.6 is another truck/van motor put in a light car (damn chrysler), that really shouldn't be there (they did this same thing with the 3.0 v-6 in the Shadow). That's why the 2.0 talon's an eclipse's are so fast, they're all top end in a light car.
  9. Hi, I'm new here, but I've been over at the Tristarion board for a little while. I have been wondering about dropping a mopar 400 big block in my conquest. My car needs some motor work that I would rather put the money twards a real motor to go in it. The motor will come with a 3 speed trans. of some sort, which type it is I do not know. Has anyone ever done to their quest on here, and does anyone have some helpful tips? I have searched for things online but have been so far unsucessful. I also had to repair my frame on the passenger side from the typical subframe rust. The repair is very good, but I wonder if it would hold up to big block punishment. Once again, any advice or tips would be very greatful.
