  1. Hi Vengeance, I am also on the same quest. I have a stock motor and I'd like to see where your research takes you. So far this is what I have. I am using this map on a stock engine and so far I've eliminated most of the bucking and popping although I am not fully convienced that this map is optimum. 2. I had the same exact plan due to financial constraints. First install the E6K and run the two injectors then MPI later when more money grows from the tree. I successfully installed the E6K (thanks to people like Joel) and now tuning it. Joel - I don't remember my manual talking about needing a control box. The E6K harness directly connects onto the 02 sensor (1 wire). Did I miss something? Let me know.
  3. My 1988 engine is totally stock and I am using the stock injectors (no MPI) using staged setup which the haltech unit allows me to do. Â Small injectors at lower loads and big injectors at higher loads. The car runs great when I step on the gas slowly - yes, the power is there and more, but when I abruptly step on the gas it pops or backfires. Â I modified the ignition map and I was able to reduce this problem but I got to a point where any changes on the ignition map doesn't help or doesn't reduce this backfiring. Â Of course, I maybe doing something wrong so don't negate the idea that my ignition map is incorrect. Do you think its leaning out when I step on the gas hard? Â My problem with this idea is that I am using the stock injectors therefore it should work if I can figure the stock mapping. My biggest question is why is it backfiring? What are the possible root cause?
  4. Got mine too! It looks great! Nice and Shiny! I think I'll keep the logo since I'm too lazy to polish it out. I have a little trouble installing the triangulation to the wall since I still have the ABS and some other pipes that needs to be bent (rerouted). Minor details. Thanks Shawn!! Jdevera - AKA Enertia
  5. I too want to keep my A/C. When I removed my control harness, I found that there's one wire that hooks up from the stock ECU to the A/C wiring (compressor). You may want to test exactly what this wire does. Keep me posted.
  6. Thanks for the input guys. I think we already beat this horse to submission. Worst case, I'll call Joel. Going back to the MPI setup, is it possible to use the distributor as trigger for the fuel system? Don't you need a home trigger to let the computer know which cylinder to release fuel into? i.e. sequential.
  7. Okay so I had time to play with this adjustment this afternoon. I think the setting should be a BIT AFTER #1 terminal.
  8. This afternoon, I was able to start the engine, but it is still shaky. Â I think the timing is still off but it is definitely a starting point. My setup is also using the distributor as trigger (reluctor) and to distribute the spark. Hmm.. it still sounds like a distributor, but without the vac and weights thanks to digital control. I am using Mallory HYFIRE VI and it works for a cheap price. Thanks for the advise. Â I didn't know exactly how to position the rotor so I set it on center. Â I'll change it next time. [q] At TDC make sure your rotor is sitting right under a a BIT before the #1 terminal. LOCK rotor, LOCK the distributor and your done! [/q]
  9. I agree, but I still do not have a crank sensor, and I do not have much cash these days. Â Where do I get the cheapest crank sensor? Â Thanks for the input!
  10. I didn't know you already have MPI, is it a magna? Â What are you using for trigger? Â Anyway, my E6K project seems lagging compared to your project. Â Yesterday, I am really close to getting the ignition timing done. Â I completely removed the vac (bladder) and weights off the distributor but it still need some tweaking. Â The timing is still about 15deg retard, but I am getting really excited to get this close. Are you completely done with the ignition setup? Any problems with rotor phasing? Â This rotor phasing is my main concern with this old distributor setup and I am really temped to spend another $200 to get an S3 hall sensor and 2 coil tower (waist spark). Dude, I hope you are not giving up coz I am gearing up to have the same MPI setup. Â I'm thinking that one of the guys using SDS must have a FUEL map that you/we can use. Â Is the MPI installed or do you still have the original intake manifold? What size turbo are you using? Â Any special cams? Did you have the engine rebored to a larger size?
  11. nice.. very nice.. lots of bling bling under that hood. I almost got blind looking at the chrome. 8) [edit] Oh yeah, I notice those windshield washers too... Man those things are cool.
  12. Hi Glenn, This is whats affected when I removed the "control harness" out of my 88TSI. We have one thing in common in our setup - We both want to keep our A/C. ECI controll relay - out. Fuel pump [RW] - Easy; Wire termination is located by the Stock ECU. 2 FI resistors - out FI [RW] - use stock injectors for now. Yes, using staged setup. Secondary air control - out; Plug the hole at the primary catalist. Detonator sensor - disconnected. I left the sensor as a plug. Spark control igniter - out; air flow sensor - out; EGR control solenoid valve - out; Plan to remove the EGR and use a plate to plug. Idle speed control motor - unfortunately, the motor is not compatible with Haltech. Distributor [RW] Ignition Coil - Rewired with new ignition control which is connected to new ECU. Waste Gate Valve [RW] Oxygen Sensor [RW] Throttle Position Sensor [RW] Ignition Timing Adjusting Terminal - out Oil pressure sensor needs to be wired back to [b-38] Water Temp sensor needs to be wired back to [b-38] There's one wire that is connected from ECI control unit to A/C which is shown in page 8-78 of the 1988 manual. I was told that this wire tells the ECU to shutoff the A/C when the car is under too much load. You may want to find out exactly what this wire does before removing the harness so that test can be made. Please let me know your findings. RW - rewired with new ECU.
  13. Here's something for you guys with E6K. http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/3rdgen/how-to/Dat...%20graphing.htm have fun graphing your computer output. Jerry -
  14. At last E6K users! Can you guys share the following. Please. 1) Fuel Maps 2) Ignition Maps 3) Decent, cheapest, and easiest way to install a trigger on starquest. 4) How did you hook up the ignition coil? 5) How did you use your PWM? 6) How did you route your harness? Where did you install the fuse block assy? 7) How did you hookup the Idle Speed Motor?
  15. I have a HALTECH too but Im still running the trigger from the distributor. Â Can you show me how you installed the magnets and trigger? Â Did you buy them? What came with the package? What type of brackets did you manufacture, etc. Let me know, thanks. Enertia - Jdevera
