5.0 Mustang Short Throw Shifter

Well I bought a B&M shifter for a 5.0 and started to modify it to work on my quest. First off, I couldn't and I mean I couldn't get the shifter all the way in with the nylon ball piece on. So I had to run it with out it for now, and then I ran into the problem of having all the Top gears (1,3,5) but would kick out and grind if you tried any of the lower gears (2,4,R) so I modified the base allitle more and then I got both sets to go in. My problem is that it is too short of a throw, I can't get it into second if I have the car under WOT, I also get alot of chatter, so I don't know what everyone else is doing to make their 5.0 shifters to work, but I can't drive the car like this.

Here's some pics, I also have the measurements showing the throw between the two if you want to see them

Maybe with some time I can figure out what's going on with this, but for now I'm going to cut a factory one down to finish out the season.

It's not a big deal to cut anything, but the way it sits right now I have both top and bottom gears, but if you move it just a little bit either way you lose one or the other. Are you talking about the holes just above where it says B&M? Edited by blue_crush

Have you tried adjusting those two bolts that are in front of and behind the shifter, just above the ball? If I'm not mistaken, they limit the forward and reverse travel of the shifter, those could be stopping the transmission from completely engaging a gear.

no I didn't. I just took it out and replaced it with a hacked stock shifter...but now you say that I will try it. I still don't know why with the nylon ball attached it won't fit in the hole. Maybe the ball the b&m uses is larger than the quest? I don't know. I was running it without anything down there, I'm sure it's not the smartest thing to do.
