blue_crush
Well I bought a B&M shifter for a 5.0 and started to modify it to work on my quest. First off, I couldn't and I mean I couldn't get the shifter all the way in with the nylon ball piece on. So I had to run it with out it for now, and then I ran into the problem of having all the Top gears (1,3,5) but would kick out and grind if you tried any of the lower gears (2,4,R) so I modified the base allitle more and then I got both sets to go in. My problem is that it is too short of a throw, I can't get it into second if I have the car under WOT, I also get alot of chatter, so I don't know what everyone else is doing to make their 5.0 shifters to work, but I can't drive the car like this. Here's some pics, I also have the measurements showing the throw between the two if you want to see them http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/001-7.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/007-5.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/008-4.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/009-4.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/010-3.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/012-3.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/015-3.jpg Maybe with some time I can figure out what's going on with this, but for now I'm going to cut a factory one down to finish out the season. blue_crush
Their was too much BS in the "steeda shifter" thread, that's why I started this one
Laodicea
Cut off the bolt holes in the last pic that overlap the top so that it will fit more properly. Or is it a big deal to you to cut it? Edited September 21, 2009 by Laodicea
blue_crush
It's not a big deal to cut anything, but the way it sits right now I have both top and bottom gears, but if you move it just a little bit either way you lose one or the other. Are you talking about the holes just above where it says B&M? Edited September 22, 2009 by blue_crush

blue_crush
Those holes aren't hurting anything, and it would fit the same if they were their or not....they are not in the way of anything so why would I cut them off? Laodicea
Well I was looking at the pic and to me it looked like the tranny tunnel top was keeping it from going down a little...like it was wedged up...that's all I was thinking....but if I am wrong no problem. Dave-O
Have you tried adjusting those two bolts that are in front of and behind the shifter, just above the ball? If I'm not mistaken, they limit the forward and reverse travel of the shifter, those could be stopping the transmission from completely engaging a gear. blue_crush
no I didn't. I just took it out and replaced it with a hacked stock shifter...but now you say that I will try it. I still don't know why with the nylon ball attached it won't fit in the hole. Maybe the ball the b&m uses is larger than the quest? I don't know. I was running it without anything down there, I'm sure it's not the smartest thing to do.
Laodicea
It will vibrate more without it....but you could sand it down until it snaps in tightly.
ultraflexxj
have you measured the size of the stock ball compared to the b&M
