alright, i had this problem in the past...and it went away on its own...but this was VERY long ago.

some info

- recently did a system restore (full restore, lost everything) and i tried my best to get updates for everything from windows nd nvidia...but forgot about dell.

- came home one day and apparently my comp tried to reboot itself, i entered my password and came up

"NMI parity check / memory parity error. the system has halted"

- i tried another restore, and got the same thing.

- this happens almost immediately after the windows xp screen is trying to load.

- i have tried to reset BIOS settings, still no luck. I have BIOS version A07

- I have used the F12 utility partition and done the system diagnosis and it will either freeze or say everything is good.

here are my computer stats i pulled from dell.com this is all stuff i told them to build my comp. And i no longer have a warranty.

- if no one can help me here, do you think best buy could? i spent good money on this comp, and im sure it can be fixed or a part can be replaced.

- I am using a room mates laptop for very limited amount of time. But if someone can help i will send you $$$

MS KB

"Check the Memory

Remove any extra memory modules that are in the computer, leaving only the least amount that is required for the computer to start and run Windows. Restart the computer to see whether the error messages persist.

If the error does not reappear, the issue is isolated to one or more of the RAM modules that you removed from the computer. Continue to remove and replace the minimum amount of RAM required, using the memory modules that you removed. When the error returns, you have isolated the individual memory module that is responsible for the problem.

This process may require you to restart your computer several times to pinpoint the specific memory module that is not working correctly. "

If you are already out of warrantee then crack the case and follow instructions above.

Good luck,

CJ

well i didnt have time to do all that so i brought it to best buy, had to go there for something else anyways. and they were able to fix it, they said it was also not reading my physx processor so they are gonna fix that and do an optimization, all for $30, def worth it i think. thanks for the help guys, if more problems arise ill let ya'll know, well i will let you know when i pick it up 2morrow haha

Maybe you enabled ECC memory option in the bios. ECC requires a setting in the BIOS program to be enabled, and if you accidently enabled it with non parity memory you will get that error.

But 30 bucks, you got off cheap ..

nope, found out when i picked it up, they didnt even know they fixed it. because they didnt. when he was moving stuff around he messed with the ageia physx card. And it was not fully connected, not reading. but when i went to pick it up, i saw it was not reading the physx card. so he installed a driver and re-seated the card. low and behold my error screen came up. so i just removed the physx card and the computer is working like a CHAMP! woohoo!!

An add-on number crunching card designed to handle physics calculations. Thus more realism could be crammed into games without overloading your main CPU chip. Just like modern graphics cards have computing power on them designed to do a specific task (graphics stuff, compared to the almost-anything-goes capability of a regular CPU chip) the physics co-processor cards are optimized for certain types of calculations.

And like any co-processor, the software needs to "know" about the card and have the ability to make use of it. Just stuffing a physx card into any old PC isn't going to do squat unless your software uses the card. Kinda like putting an intercooler on a Civic... without a turbo.

ok thanks Mike , i got no need of one :)

but i understand what your saying,it's like adding a vid card and sound car on a system with onboard vid and sound,,you remove the load from the processor so it can do other things besides make a sim vid card and sound card ,,and speeds the whole process up
