When they don't happen, we get all frazzled and click again, then again, until finally we come to the conclusion that it's not going to work, but never the less, spontaneous recovery kicks in and we try it again down the road My favorite examples of this are public printers. When someone pushes print, and it doesn't print immedietly, they continue clicking about 30x to try and hit that magical number which will work. Other day I fixed a "log jam" on the laser jet in a computer lab, had 30 sheets of print pop out at me (the same 1 page paper 30 x) before it would recognize CANCEL.
