88_TSi
I just bought this '88 'Quest for $400 (the previous owner was asking $1000) last Thursday night. It had not been running for several months, and had been sitting in his driveway for a year (at least). With the help of ProfessorQuest and JustPaus as well as quite a few others in the virtual mech forum, it's running quite well after a few days work. Above all else I'm very pleased that I presently have less than $600 in it (including the tow to my home) and it is a good running, descent driving car. It really isn't in too bad of shape either but I have some serious plans for this one. http://img182.exs.cx/img182/3818/dcp9227a9mz.jpg http://img164.exs.cx/img164/4540/dcp9226a8rp.jpg Yeah it does have 2 different kinds of wheels...lol If you have any ideas about how I can make this 'Quest run stronger or look better PLEASE feel free to throw in your $.02. I've got a few grand to play with... So what do you think I should do?
Burton
If its running decent, I'd just make sure you get it running as reliable as possible before you start modding it. Aside from that, I'd say get after that body. Can't tell perfectly from the pics, but it appears to need a drivers fender, driver's 1/4, an airdam, header panel and possibly passenger headlight area? Oh, yeah, get some matching wheels too. so you have less than $600 into it? And you can drive it? I'd say thats one hell of a score you got there. indy_85stariones
a drivers fender, driver's 1/4, header panel and possibly passenger headlight area As long as the paint hasn't cracked, I've seen Paintless Dent Repair guys perform miracles. They use heat from a small butane/propane torch to soften the metal. Then they perform surgery with their PDR tools. I would only use a Traveling Hail Damage team. They are the ones that have the experience to use these kind of tricks.

Burton
DAYUM! She's come a long way in a short period of time. Looks good I'm guessing you have alot of time on your hands. I'd have to take probably 3-4 weeks off work and work 10 hrs a day to get that much stuff done. Hell with the only 4-5 hours a week I get to work on the 87 it will take me decades to get done hehehe. 88_TSi
Well, I work 40+ hours a week so I work on it during the evenings after work and on the weekends. Every chance I get. - And Thanks for the compliment - It has come a long way.
BandY
Speaking from experience (and I got my TSi for $450!), I'd suggest upper and lower rad hoses, along with heater hoses. I skipped getting a lower hose when I did the upper, simply because the lower looked to be in "acceptable" shape. Yeah well, not too long ago, my acceptable hose cost me a blown head gasket, and who knows if the head paid for it, too. The upper hose and one heater hose "went" at two different times, and they both had to be dealt with along side the road. I guess I have a few regrets?! 88_TSi
Good Point - BandY.... I'll get the radiator hoses tomorrow... Mine look good, and I was going to hold out and get silicone hoses but I'm going to the meet in 7 Points this coming weekend and it's better to be safe than sorry... Â ;D ;D *ANOTHER UPDATE* - ALL COOLANT HOSES HAVE BEEN REPLACED - FOR PEACE OF MIND
BandY
You sure are right about that!! Good luck, and enjoy the meet!
