Need help w/ SDS trigger & Unorthodox

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am trying to put in a SDS crank trigger with an unorthodox pulley and the only place with enough room to mount the sensor and the magnets seems to be at the front of the pulley. The pics from the boosted_one is using a OEM pulley which has a lot more room than the unorthodox. Has any one tried this setup, and how did you get it to work.

Thanks Don

I was going to put an Unorthodox pulley on my 4g63 swap but that was the turning point once realizing that there is not enough meat in the pulley to do so.  They make it so thin for meat under the belt machined groove.  You could do a flywheel install.

I ended up using a stock harmonic pulley due to the bad things I have heard about the unorthodox and wanting to retain harmonic balancer for various reasons.  If you were deadset on retaining an aluminum pulley you could have it modded.  I Everdured a trigger ring onto the stock pulley and built the stainless brackets in order to mount the hall.  It's sturdy and has good looks, here's some pics;

If you can build a VERY sturdy bracket to bring out the hall sensor to the front of the pulley sure you can run it like that.

I think the solid OEM pulley is a very good factory part, especially for the SDS trigger magnets.

i'm running the hall sensor in front on an unothodox, no problems thus far.  i don't have any really decent pics to give you, but my mount starts with two of the timing cover bolts on the lower driver's side of the engine.
