Hi all, before I dish a crap load of money into my conquest I need some help. Bought an 87 wide. Had a knocking noise and rattling noise. Changed the timing chain and tensioner with it. Rattling went away but the knock is still there. Here's the deal. It only knocks when warm, and only knocks around 2k to 4k and that's it. Has a non jet valve head with hydraulic lifters. Any idea? Oil looked alright to me as well.

Without some key info we will be shooting in the dark with any suggestions.

Does your Lady only knock when she is in gear or even if if you are in neutral?

If she knocks in neutral:

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a engine noise stethoscope. Or use a LONG screwdriver against your ear.

Put her up on 4 jack stands.

After warming her up, with someone else on the accelerator pedal slowly running her through the RPM's, try to locate the exact source/location of the knock in the engine using the stethoscope/screwdriver. Make sure that you keep the stethoscope's hollow probe/screwdriver (and your head ) away from any rotating engine parts, ie. - belts, harmonic balancer, radiator fans, etc!

Let us know what you find.

For What It's Worth.
