TSIboostman
I have an issue with my car not making the power it used too while in boost. I looked at it today and it is something that has been happening over time. It at first would fall flat on its face like timing was being pulled when in max boost pressure which for my 87 is 7 lbs. I looked at the injectors and plan to have them cleaned soon and do not believe them to be the issue. It is like it looses power or does not want to go into boost and then when it is in boost the power is not there like it used to be. I cleaned the intercooler hot side where the air comes out and it smelled like burnt oil and had a sludge burnt smell to it and the hoses were coated with this sticky oil substance on the inside. I cleaned them off. I let the car cool down and the intake side or propeller shaft has a lot of play in it. It will move like 3-4 mm or more side to side up and down and front to back. I can feel the cartridge floating in it. I checked the vac advance and it moves and holds pressure with a hand pump. I am a lost at ideas.... thx
Guest 87redstar
Does it fall on its face around 2500-3000 rpms? Edited September 7, 2014 by 87redstar

TSIboostman
yes it does, was pulling strong but it is like it loses power right before hitting the crossover point on boost and then it makes weaksauce for power in turbo. I have no idea what it could be but I checked the injectors and do not believe it to be them.
TSIboostman
A clogged cat maybe the car stays running with all the intercooler piping disconnected which it should not I kept it running and the turbo is blowing air just not making power like it was. and the exhaust is a lot more muffled than before... TSIboostman
now I think it is a dirty fuel problem, like clogged up fuel. I cleaned the inlet to the fuel pump with some carb cleaner and it had more power but still hesitated a little. I have some new injectors getting here on Monday so I will then have them professionally cleaned and go from there.
