Starion86ESI
Well I bought this flatty back in 2011. Had around 124k miles, maroon interior, and auto. I was told the auto was rebuild at some point and it worked fine. I had the interior swapped to black by my friend and got 83 tails. I drove this car as a daily every winter but it somehow always managed to take itself down for the summers.http://i.imgur.com/OxK4flw.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/NVWWqf8.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/RaTaY6h.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/w1r06B5.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/x1SYol9.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/lSfjtWP.jpg
Starion86ESI
Drove the car for a little bit and then blew the headgasket which was around a coolant passage in the back of the head. I didn’t know what the issue was and it went away for a bit. Then came back in full force. I had bought all the parts from dad to rebuild and put back in. But its never that easy. Pulled everything apart, exhaust manifold is cracked and so is the head. The valve tool I rented from Advance auto even had directions for a starion head. I got Schneider springs, and stock size stainless steel valves and threw those in. I also bled all the lifters and replaced all studs and gaskets. The head was replaced with a non jet one of a Raider. Exhaust manifold was stress relieved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdBKelH43-U Album of the head swap:http://imgur.com/a/NaCax/ Edited January 26, 2014 by Starion86ESI
Starion86ESI
Drove it for a few months and the neutral safety switch for the auto started having issues. So I ended up jumping the plug for the switch and routing the 12v around it making it useless. After which I drove it for two more months and spun the rod bearings. Which meant a teardown of the engine but I didn’t have a garage to use that time. So I ended up borrowing my friends. It was supposed to be a 3 day swap with a turnkey engine on the way from “YZRIDER” in PA. Turns out he sent me an engine that also had spun rods and refused to give me a refund of any kind claiming ignorance. The engine was however rebuilt rather recently and I was able to salvage many parts off of it. His crank was toast and so were the pistons which showed signs of detonation. The block was also 1mm over and no longer usuable. I had the entire top end from turbo to intake polished. Balance shafts were eliminated. I got ARP rod bolts and already had ARP head studs. The whole build ended up taking several months through the summer because of the porting which was done by a friend for free but received minimal priority which I had no problem with.http://i.imgur.com/G7HyPEi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/m3W8xz5.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/5QQEMJ5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hW95ff6.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kxFoz2r.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uE9Ax71.jpg http://i.imgur.com/trMdY0a.jpg http://i.imgur.com/OmLf04U.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FdBUc5b.jpg http://i.imgur.com/LzXSyBd.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xOG3M0Y.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nHV60bh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8R7RT9W.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3w3Pnuw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TEIYS3H.jpg http://i.imgur.com/B3Ttiea.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AY3eINt.jpg
Starion86ESI
I got the engine in the car around November. I misread a sign and the city and they towed the car and tore off my airdam. Making this the second starquest the city towed and damaged that I owned. I drove it till March or so and then I blew the automajic trans mission. I believe the oil pump in it went. So I decided this was the motivation I need to manual swap so I slowly gathered parts while the car sat. We worked for 20 hours straight on the swap. Only taking breaks to pee and run to home depot for various hardware. All in all I probably wouldn't do it again mainly because getting the clutch pedal to fit and get situated and mounted wore me out. All the rest was pretty easy and straight forward. Car ran great afterwards and much more responsive. http://i.imgur.com/GrLPhhK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/W7STVv7.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/8osrtmM.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/iBnIIJu.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/juNKbT8.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/q4DEeqK.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/zw0TS03.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ttBdT0m.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/TUn30xs.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/kKBJfr7.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ovok4iD.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/QLwTIA9.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ZfnJ9nN.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/XF0d49G.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/23e6moH.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/88mO73w.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ato3D2l.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/7L3Y0QP.jpg Edited January 24, 2014 by Starion86ESI

Starion86ESI
Shortly after the manual swap the car started smoking ever so slightly on decel in gear. This time the car was going down in the fall. The smoking got worse and worse. I did compression test and got 60psi on cylinder 2 and could see the second exhaust cylinder leaking oil. Turns out the valve seal (which I replaced when I did the head) had gone but at the time I had thought that the rings were put in upside down or wrong. At this point I had quit on the g54b. I stopped driving the car and started saving some cash. A friend of a friend was parting out an IS300 that spun on the highway and smashed into a concrete divider with its side. The guy was supposed to sell me the entire swap for $1000. I gave my friend a deposit and didn't know the friend never gave the deposit to the guy because the seller refused it. They shook on the guy holding the engine. He ended up reneging and selling the entire car to some Polish guys. My friend who was acting as the go between had a 2jz that he was planning on putting in his Cressida which he had por15'd the block and put brand new stainless steel hardware onto it. I ended up buying it off him for $1000 with engine, harness, and trans. He would also help me put it in since I had no space nor tools to do this. Currently I am slowly accumulating parts for this swap. I don't care that its NA, I plan to build a NA-T later, I just want to drive my car and have it be reliable. I have never had success with the G54B and its just not for me. The 2jz-ge vvti will make more power than a mildly modded g54b and makes it better (flatter torque and power curve). Some ebay cheap headers that should mate up with the starion exhaust I have now:http://i.imgur.com/cbh9G7W.jpg The whole package going into the car:http://i.imgur.com/tiguX3w.jpg Edited January 24, 2014 by Starion86ESI
Starion86ESI
I also performed a 5 lug/6bolt subframe swap. I have 4 subframes (1bare, 1 6bolt/rusty/in-car, 1 6bolt/missing axles, 1 4bolt) and I will be cleaning one up meanwhile this one is sitting in as a place holder in the car. http://i.imgur.com/RU71nNk.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/A0zfN8Q.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/zmTN3J0.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/8WoeJIv.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/NPNzZcg.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/8gNwZ8J.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/86UXczV.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/dsrAKel.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/6wyMFnK.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/8eiUwWm.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/arlUYJP.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/UV45jU8.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/mC78Xtx.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/OWJHcda.jpg

Starion86ESI
Keep it up man! Flatty love ; ) Thanks. D2's on the way. I just have to have a widebody crossmember slotted so I can attach it to the flatty frame because the widebody is already modded for a 240sx rack. And I have spindles and tie rods. So 2jz-ge vvti flatty with a 240sx rack on D2's.

jjohnson
So that jz is non turbo? If so what would it take to make it a turbo ? Does it need all forged internals etc?
Starion86ESI
So that jz is non turbo? If so what would it take to make it a turbo ? Does it need all forged internals etc? Internally you need rods out of a non-vvti 2jz can be turbo or non turbo rods were the same. Find any rwd 2jz powered Lexus that has a distributor on it in a junkyard. Then pistons off a turbo 2jz so find a guy who replaced his stock turbo pistons. Throw rings on them and they drop in. Consensus with the 2jz guys is mostly don't rehone. Turbo head gasket. And then exhaust manifold turbo and piggy back with all the necessary plumbing.

EDIT: Nvm I totally spaced that you will be running a 2jz... /facepalm 2jz I have doesn't have a pump and 240 rack has an lines and was originally set up with the mr2 one. Too much hassle finding a 2jz pump, making lines, and finding the bracket. Or I can buy the mr2 pump off my friends and mount it wherever (it's electric) and clean up the engine bay. Starion86ESI
Immobilizer has been bypassed (requires key and ecu from the same car) which allows the vvti to work and secondary o2 simulator has been installed. Both are in the ecu case. http://i.imgur.com/AAqG25h.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/A6U6O5V.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/acxz1sC.jpg
