Frenchi934
So far this weekend has mostly been sanding and getting things ready for primer (side skirts, hatch, fuel door, and mirrors).Aside from that I also shaved the lock from the fuel door and fixed the broken power antenna. Here are a few pictures from the weekends work. To replace the power antenna I took this round cover off: http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/4521/sdc11037.jpg pulled this plastic hoop out with a screwdriver: http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/4522/sdc11038.jpg Here is the part that breaks on these old power antennas: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3940/sdc11039i.jpg You also have to remove the old mast: http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4339/sdc11040p.jpg http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/215/sdc11041f.jpg Bought this replacement at autozone for $19: I had to cut 5 inches off the plastic track because it was longer than the stock track, then I used a razor blade to taper the end so it would go in easier. http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/1236/sdc11042fs.jpg Here is the after pictures: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2497/sdc11043c.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7224/sdc11045z.jpg from my build thread. you can get this one from autozone for

Vnomous1
Bump, anyone have a antenna whip? mast. The MAST (Rod and Drum, Antenna) part number is MB541310, and still availble throught the dealer as far as I know. However, I would like to point out something in a previous response about the after market antenna. I got one off of EBay ( I actually bought it from another board member, who got it off of EBay) Chrysler-Conquest-Mitsubishi-Starion-w-Directions-4-Pro-Result-NEW-/400259786183?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5d3157a5c7)), and it works just fine. It only had three wires; a ground wire, power wire for up and a power wire for down) which I connected to the plug at the antenna amplifier (not in the instructions, of course) because that made it work properly. And guess what? That whole NEW assembly is about 50 bucks. The mast alone from the dealer will cost you that much, likely more. After installing this one, I now see that just about any after market power antenna will work.

Vnomous1
hey Vnomous 1 do you have any pictures of how it's hooked up I need to do mine too .Thank's in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not at the moment, but I will tell you it is pretty simple (you would kick yourself). Once you unplug the connector from the antenna amplifier, you will see two male end prongs, on top on either side. the other prongs are in a row on the "bottom" on the conector. All I did was turn on power to the radio, and see which wire made the antenna go up and which one made the antenna go down by cycling the power switch. I then used some of those little splice connectors to attach them, and taped them up. That was it my friend. To easy.

Woody
Just have to ask about the antenna. I can get a universal one from over here, but the problem I might have is the teeth are ever so slightly spaced apart more. They look the same, until you line the old with the new up against each other. They fit together fine but start getting further away and eventually don't sit in the groves together. Would this still work in the motor if its so close to the standard spacing? Would the gear still happen to pick it up properly?

Get what Frenchie (Tyler) suggested, it works if you have all the factory motor. Look above at the part # he listed.

Indiana
There's two issues with the antennas you can't fix and one is the idler wheel that the cord rubs against as it deflects and goes into the drum and the other is the drum. You can use the parts from a DSM antenna to fix this. The idler wheel gets a flat spot in it and then it won't roll so the cord drags and it gets worse real quick and won't go all the way into the drum and the other is the drum swells at the top and drags on the case and as it gets half way full it drags too much so the clutch slips and it doesn't wind up completely. You can get that cord last I looked at the dealer it wasn't expensive.
Woody
I just contacted our dealer here today and they said the mast has to come from Japan @ $110AUD. I think thats a bit drastic
kstokes606
I am in the same boat. I have a universal one that works, but the hardware for the hole in the body is missing. slowbra01
Old thread resurrected. I currently just want to replace the mast. I just want to know how to remove the motor from the fender. I located two nuts that hold the bracket in place and now i believe that the entire motor is just hanging by the grommet and antenna cap. How do i remove this. Basically how to i remove the entire assembly from the fender? Thanks!
kstokes606
To remove mine I removed the antenna cap nut and the assy should drop down. Angle the top of the antenna out of the hole and move the assy out of the hole.
