Just seeing if anyone would be interested in getting their tail lights tinted (third light too).

Normal cost at my business is $150 and I can offer it to you guy for $100 plus shipping costs.

I use automotive grade clear with 10% black base in it to tint. I can tint how ever dark or light you want.

Once I receive the lights, It is a 1-2 day turn around before i can send them back.

(example: if your on the east coast theoretically if you shipped them to me priority i would get them on wed. and i would send them back out on friday so you would get them on the following monday.)

Here's some tails i've done already. they can be wet sanded and buffed as well if you'd like.

Looks good, hmmm I wonder what 83 tails would look like..... how well does this cover up fine cracks ect?

BC_99

I have done a few of these myself and faound that if you do them dark enough, they will hide all the cracks, but at night when you hit the brakes, if you know what to look for, you can see the microcracks in the lenses, but it deffinately covers up many flaws in tails.

It will even seal BIG cracks. I have a couple tails I got from Mingo and one of them had a crack from the top to bottom, that let water get in bigtime, as well as microcracks all over. A few coats of clear had all the cracks sealed up, then I did the spray tint and more clear. They came out REALLY good all things considered and don't leak anymore.

As you see guys, I haven't done a single set of SQ lights yet, except for mine. anybody want theirs done?? I can do any plastic lenses. this is no longer a feeler. Its a group buy, but there is no minimum amount of people needed. $100 is a good deal for tails. Hit me up! Also, don't confuse this with the crappy VHT niteshades stuff. I use high quality materials and it turns out a million times better than the spray can stuff. Edited by 87TsiOwner

There's interest, just not many people. I've been offering this service for a couple years too, and I've done maybe 2 sets of SQ tails other than mine in that time. of course, I've done a bunch of non SQ stuff. There's not a huge market for it here, but there are people who want it. Just keep your add up and a job will trickle in every few months, which is better than no jobs every few months.

Your price may be holding people back a little too. I do SQ tails for $80 with return shipping included, but I only advertise it on 26liter. Don't worry tho, I'm no competition. Since you put your add up, I have only had local tail tinting jobs, and no SQ related ones.

Oh, and I disagree about the Niteshades stuff being no good. I use that to get my darkness versus over reduced basecoat and as long as the lens is scuffed good before application, and it's covered with a quality urethane clear after, it looks great, lasts a long time, and IMO stands up to fading out better than using an thinned basecoat. I started out using the Niteshades, then had a buddy tell me he was doing his the same way you were. I tried it out because using the basecoat would save me from spending money on the Niteshades. However, after doing a couple sets that way, I went back to Niteshades because I thought it came out looking better and more uniform.

Dont get discouraged tho. Your work looks good and like I said one job every few monts, is better than no job every few months.

Oh and what is it with Corvettes and tinted lights? I've tinted more sets of Corvette tails/markers/fogs than I have SQ stuff LOL. I think it's cause those guys are used to spending big money to keep their cars nice

Mark-

I know there isnt much interest for sq stuff since i havent done a set of sq tails other than mine. As far as the niteshades stuff being crap, its an opinion.... using it by itself it turns out like crap but if you do it like you said you do, then im sure it comes out way better. I don't use thinned basecoat either, its mixed it with clear.

Im not discouraged, its just a service i dont get much request for anymore and would like to get more people wanting to do it. thanks for the compliment man. I put some time into the lights cuz i cut/buff them after they dry. their pretty much a mirror when finished. hense why i charge what i do.

Ahhh, that explains why it's a little more. I get the clear almost glasslike coming out of the gun, so I rarely have to do any polishing. Scuff it, spray it, let it cure and box it up.

The Niteshades stuff is kinda crappy if it's used just by itself. It's hard to get the tint consistant and get a shiny finish. Light coats of it work best, but that alone would leave the lights with a matte type finish, but when you dump some clear on top of that it looks stellar. It also fades out pretty quick if you don't clear it to get that UV protection.

I've done the tinting the clear thing too. I didn't care for that because if you put in on heavy to get a nice smooth finish, the "color" looked kinda blotchy and inconsistant. If I put on lighter coats to get consstant "color" coverage, the finish was a little peely because of the high solids of the clear. I found out that mixing the "color" a midcoat clear or a clear base like PPG DBC500, I was able to do lighter coats and get a more consistant coverage, which left me with a nice smooth surface to hog my clear on to and gave me a nice smooth finish right out of the gun. Might be something to play around with.

You know the old saying... ask 100 body guys how to fix something, and you'll get 100 different answers. This is one of those deals where there's different ways to end up with a quality product. As long as it turns out looking dark and shiny, and doesn't fall off, it doesn't really matter how you get there LOL.

I don't know if you've done it or not, but I bet if you advertised that service on your local Craigslist, you'd have so much work, you wouldn't even have time for tinting SQ stuff LOL. Your finished product looks great, so it'll sell itself.

ya i get it pretty glass like too out of the gun, just nibbin for dust and getting rid of the little bit of orange peel there is.

On headlights or clear lenses, it does get splotchy and inconsistent but on red tinted lights, its always consistent. i'll have to try that method you said. sounds like it should work pretty good.

that is true about asing 100 different body guys their opinion and you get 100 different answers haha!

you i have advertised but it was a few months ago. i did it for a month and got nothin.
