Resist The System
I'm in the midst of restoring a 1989 SWB Montero 2.6. I will be posting pictures come tomorrow. Dad and I are working things out concerning the block/cylinder head rebuild. I also have to let my 87 Quest go, time, money and space are far to pinched to make both vehicles happen. I'll be getting married come October and the wife needs a super reliable 4x4 for transporting the gremlins, we plan to restore everything from the ground up. I purchased the Montero from a kid in Columbus Ohio, he was asking $1500 but took $700. The rig has zero rust rather the the roof line (very minimal) and the underbody still has the factory under spray as it was a South Carolina vehicle. I plan to have it buttoned up by MOD (Mitsubishi Owners Day) at the Normal IL plant this summer. Pictures will be posted tomorrow! P.S. I do believe Dad will be looking to purchase a Montero after he gets a taste, these things are like crack (I thought the Starion was bad) lol. http://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/Montero_Front_1.jpghttp://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/Starion_Front_R_1.jpg Edited January 10, 2011 by Resist The System
MI_Mitsu
There's no better forum for Gen1 Montero's than the guys at 4x4wire.com in the Mitsubishi section. Also, I'm not too far away from northern OH where I think you're at. I currently have 3 Gen1 Montero rigs and have a ton of parts for 2.6L and 3.0L flavors. I have the same handle on the 4x4wire forum. Good luck with it!Jim Edited January 6, 2011 by MI_Mitsu
Resist The System
I would like to thank both Dad and Bill for helping with the engine removal, its great to know good people still exist! After a few hours they were on their way back to the shop with my former quest and engine block from the Monty. I didn't have time to resize the images, however I will tonight when I get home from work! Here's a few quick pictures until I can edit them further and post them all. Sorry for the large dimensions, these were directly taken from my iphone. http://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/Montero_Bay.jpghttp://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/Montero_Motor.jpghttp://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/Starion_Buttoned_down.jpg Edited January 10, 2011 by Resist The System

Resist The System
At the moment I've been thinking about putting pace setter headers and a little more aggressive exhaust system on the montero, I don;t know what else I could really do, rather than a webber swap! Resist The System
Here's a quick update guys, the block is clean enough to eat off of lol, I'm not use to seeing 2.6 blocks not covered in years of grease and oil residue. http://p6.hostingprod.com/@thefuturefaceofamerica.com/monstarion/mcie1.jpg
