ECU

I don't have an 86, but I'm going to say no, because the 87-89 uses a smaller primary and larger secondary injectors, while the 86's use 2 injectors that are the same size....so the 87 ecu will be controlling the injectors as if one is larger and one is smaller, where its really sending those signals to injectors that are both the same size, from what i remember the injectors are right in the middle flow wise between the small primary and large secondary of the later models.

Justin is correct on the injectors. Pre 87s have two same size injectors that pulse alternately. The 87 and up have a smaller and larger injector, the smaller/primary runs at idle and and low speeds/rpms. The secondary kicks in around 3k rpms or half throttle and they both supply fuel at the same time.

You can convert over to the later model ecu, but there are other thinks that have to be swapped. I believe the FAQ forum has a write up about the conversion.
