STOCKQUEST Posted August 23, 2010 Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 I noticed that there are different alternator model numbers for starquests from 1984 1985 1986. My quest is an 87. There is a $35 price increase for my particular year. is there an actual difference in performance? Can I get a way with installing a 1984 1985 1986 alternator on my car? Has anyone done this? dmyers151 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) IIRC the newer model alternators have a slightly higher amperage output. Otherwise I believe they are aesthetically and physically the same. EDIT: The pulleys on the older alternators are slightly narrower. If the new alternator were to come with a pulley, I'd consider swapping yours old pulley onto the new unit.
