jaybrew
Have built a d50 that is a one wheel wonder. Through the research i have done, the lsd rearend from montero will interchange with the truck parts. I know the ring and pinion from the montero will go in our conquest rears, so i want to know, will the starion chunk go into the d50 housings? Indiana
Starion differentail no swap to truck sorry different size only the ring and pinion swaps and that means you have to setup the differential again and that's where people fail and parts just get ruined. Raider will but those only came with the higher ratio and its a bolt in swap you just pull axles on each and driveshaft flange. Common swap is from a Ford with the 8.8 rear axle, lsd is common for those and then stock Conquest rims fit it but you have to grind shock brackets and spring brackets and driveshaft and to get front Conquest rims to work they use hubs from a Toyota truck and put a shim on the brake caliper bracket. StarquestRescue
You need a lsd from the rear of a 4 cly montero. Most are 4.62 The way to do that is swap the Montero LSD into the open rear with the ratio you want. That way you do not have to fool with the pinion height. Measure the backlash and take some pictures of the gear pattern. Remove the ring gear from the open diff and install on the lsd. Reinstall in the rear the ring gear came out of. Reset the backlash to what it was before you took it apart and the patterned should come back to what it looked like before you took it apart. The Bering preload is the tricky part, always make your last move a tightening move. If the pattern and back lash vary around the ring gear (runout) , rotate the ring gear on the lsd and check it again. If you want 3.90 or 4.22 find a rear with that ratio and swap the lsd into it.A lot of good info here.http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=81527 http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/ba3e4493.jpg Factory adjuster tool. Yokohama
If the whole ring and pinion/LSD assembly was transplanted into a truck differential carrier; what LSD would you need 87 or 88/89 version?
StarquestRescue
Left 4cly truck lsd, center 4cly truck open, right intercooled starion lsd. The bearing are closer together on the starion lsd and will not work in the rear rear of a 4cly truck. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/b1aaa55d.jpg
