yeah, so is anyone around the chicago area? specifically the western suburbs? I'm in Downers Grove. I'm picking up my new SQ when the weather permits (not 1 foot of snow) and in the spring time it'd be cool to meet up with a fellow SQ guy and maybe possibly even possibly to learn from? thanks!

Possibly, what time? although I don't have it yet, I'm waiting until most of the snow is gone to pick it up from the current owner. Also, just FYI, I'm 16 so until I pick this car up I'd be in my dad's expedition lol. Ill dip by the meets section though, especially when I get the car home! thanks for the reply :)

ahhh interesting, Ill see if I can get over there! I doubt I can on such short notice, but ill try! Also, of coarse, here's some info:

79,000 miles. garage stored during winters, never driven in snow and has never met road salt. 60k tune up performed by a mitsubishi specialist, new clutch 2 years ago and new injectors and clips last year. He's only driven it 2100 miles in the 5 years he's owned it, so all the new parts are still basically new. Here are the photo's he sent me, hosted on my photobucket:

I'm not a big fan of the maroon, but it's too clean to pass up. I told him I'm gonna look at it and test drive it when the weather is permitting. I also told him that he should contact me if anyone else is gauging fair interest as I would then look at it, test drive it, and if all is well, buy it even with the weather like this. I have the money lined up but he would rather keep the car garaged right now then allow test drives with the snow and salt, and I understand that. I'm hoping to talk him down to 4k, but if I have to 4500 could happen too.

yeah, I don't mind the interior as much as others lol. I would slowly convert it to black though. And yes, the low mileage and clean-ness through out is what caught my eye. what kind of price do you think its worth? or i guess I should say is what should i pay for it? And also, are the 87's void to pass emissions because they are over 20 yrs old? And last, since this is my only car, it will also be my winter car. I'm prepared to drive carefully and I'm definitely getting an extra set of wheels for snow tires, but wouldn't I want to keep ABS for the winter and snow? or am I better off taking them off and just learning to not lock up the brakes? sorry for all the questions, trying to learn still, haha.

I honestly dont know about the price, if that is an Illinois and is 100% rust free and a rebuild/well worked on engine than its a decent price.

You dont have to worry about emissions in IL. You can out a straight exhaust on it, delete the second air filter and charcoal can

People remove ABS from these cars, from what I hear the system itself sucks and the ABS modular weight like 20lb.

If you engine brake and drive VERY carefully you can do without ABS, but might as well keep it for the winter.

If the car never seen snow and you are about to take it out, care wash ones a week, undercarriage wash. just keep the salt off it.

You should try to make it to that meet and hear different opinions from everyone else.

alright, Ill try my best to get out there tomorrow. and yeah, any particular car I get is going to get weekly undercarriage washes to keep the salt and road grime off. Ill see about ABS after driving it next winter, and seeing if it's worth keeping for me. and also, I didn't know that about the emissions, I always though Illinois had strict emissions until it reached 20 years old. Thats good to know though, I can get rid of the stock exhaust when I replace it then, haha.

I wasnt sure about the emissions thing, I had my quest for 8 months never got a letter to do any smog tests or anything like that.

If ya cant make it out tomorrow, feel free to hit me up any other time if you want a closer look at mine, I did a lot of work to it and still a lot to go

see my repair progress in my sig

If that car has never seen snow DO NOT DRIVE IT. One bit of salt will blow that car up. I've seen it happen. I've never driven mine until after the first really good rain, and I wait until that dries up.

I'll see you guys tomorrow.

what do you mean it will blow it up?

He means that dont take a Conquest that never saw salt or now and put it in Chicago winter.

Most people here who live in such a climate and use a Conquest for a daily do not drive it in the winter.

It would be a shame to put that car into snow when the previous owner did so much not to, but when you buy it its your choice what you want to do with it.

I take it this is your first RWD car? Careful with it in the snow. I suggest getting comprehensive insurance from State Farm and having the car reevaluated for its true value, cause as soon as someone rear ends you and the repair bill is over $1,800 it will be considered totaled unless your adjuster can claim its worth more.

yeah its my first rear wheel drive, I owned a CJ7 jeep for a few years but i only drove it twice since I sold it a few weeks after I got my permit. Other than that I've driven family cars: 01 Expidition AWD and I mostly drive our 07 BMW X3. Now that I have my licence though, my dad won't let me drive it lol. And yeah, taking the quest into the snow is gonna hurt, but it will get an undercarriage wash once a week if not more. If I could, Id pick up one of the early model lifted trucks that go up on CL for 1k or whatever, but 1k is a lot for me until I have a full time job in the summer, and 1k could do a lot on the quest too. Plus my dad wouldn't pay to insure a second car for me, and I can't really afford to insure it myself AS OF RIGHT NOW. I may possibly be able to by next winter, but I doubt it. the Quest will get weekly washes all year round though.

Keep the ABS dude, trust me, it works (three years of chicago winters with mine). Also, keep the stock oil seperator system including the charcoal filter, that also works. Delete the cats, get an exhaust. Buy a 1G MAS, get a BOV and maybeeeee a boost controller. That car is Waaaaaay to clean to be gutting and beat on.

Welcome to the club!

yeah, I couldn't make it :( I did get to get some snowboarding/jibbin in though, so it was a good day (didnt have to use my AK, so today was a good day lol) anyways, I was browsing and found this conquest. I contacted the guy a few weeks ago when he had it up but never replied. I emailed him again, but does anyone know who's car this is? its a KILLER deal, and would leave me with 2k+ to put into the car once I got it. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/cto/1543863560.html

only problem I see is having to transfer the title since its cross state, but thats just a matter of a hundred bucks on extra on top of normal registration fees i think to register a car in another state. But yeah, anyone know who's selling it?

yeah, he won't even show the car in the snow, So we are waiting to meet for a week, maybe more. We will be towing any car back, my father has a business acccount at the rental max down the street for his old house building company, so we can get a 15 or 20 foot trailer for cheap. For the undercoating, is there any prep I need to do? do they just spray the assembled undercarriage? like springs, shocks, struts, exhust, ect? or do they usually disassemble? I would think that just spraying an assembled undercarriage would affect suspension, engine and exhaust parts' functions.. Edited by NudeLobster
