TD05H-16g center into 12a

I bought a used TD05H-16g locally. I know it is probably the easiest to hone out the hot side and that would allow me to bolt it to the stock exhuast manifold.

 

But can the 12a cold side be used on the TD05H? It would be great to just use the TD05H center section as I'd rather not have to jump though all the hoops to make the DSM style compressor housing work.

 

 

 

I searched and searched, I found lots of talk of getting the hotside to work, but none on the compressor side.

take the exhaust wheel from the 12a and put it into the td05h, then use the backing plate for the thrust bearing from the 16g but use the thrust bearing internals from the 12a. the reason for the 12a thrust internals is that the shaft is a little bigger than the td05 ones around the thrust bearing part of the shaft. other than that you should be good to go!!!

You could use the 16g center cartridge, just got port out the compressor housing. Some say you have to port the exhaust housing as well, I've done the 16G center section twice and both time I didn't port the exhaust. But some say you have to port the exhaust.

yup it can be done, boreing out the 12a side shouldnt be to hard to do.

 

i would recoment that, instead of trying to clock the dsm compressor housing and then trying to rig up a bracket for your wast gate to work.

Ok, so I can use the cartrage on in the 12a's turbine and compressor housing with a little work. I'm thinking of freshing up the cartrage while I'm at it and having the cartarge rebuilt and balanced.

 

Since I'm having it balanced and there are some niks in the compressor blades should I just have a 20g wheel installed too?

 

Can I fit a 20g in a 12a compressor housing?

 

As for boring the housings out, some one else asked how. I've read you can do it with a cylinder hone and a drill. Should U use a drill press? I should track down a lathe? Should I not be gung ho for doing it myself and find someone to do it? Would a local machine shop be able to do it?

Well, here's what I did. i used a brand new 16G cartridge with compressor wheel and turbine. Used back the original compressor housing and hot side. Both these need to be bored. Compressor end needs to be bored 5mm around and hot side needs to shave off 1mm. Hope it helps. A good machine shop should do this cheap. Do your own assembly and dun forget to change the O rings.

The so called "hot side" from a 12A won't allow for a TD05H 16g to fit inside it. Why? Because the 12A is a TD05. It's smaller than the H wheel. You'll need to have the "hot side" aka turbine housing enlarged for the H wheel. You could also port the bottom of it for better spool.

 

The "cold side" aka compressor housing: Same issue.

 

And don't try enlarging with a dremel or other hokey tool. It needs to be professionally done.

well i can do the machinine and lathe work for you, plus rebuild and balancing. putting a 20g wheel inside of a 12a is gonna be hard to do because of the thickeness of the compressor housing. send me a pm is interested!

Yep, I am aware of that. That's I mentioned it, but in both cases I've gotten a hold of DSM 16G turbos I've been able to install the hotside. Possible that I got two 16G turbos that been already frankensteined out of a 12A? :confused0024:
