Shelby
this is on the wifes pc ,( HP duo core 2.8 vista home ) i never paid much attention untill yesterday when a vedio card went out, seems it says SP1 install'd but when i go to do any new updates SP2 won't install, says Sp1 must be install'd first ,now i've down load'd each seperate and try'd but no go,, do i need to uninstall the Sp1 and then try reinstalling,,if that option fails i have no choice but to restore to a point it was in before i mess'd with it right ? microsoft will not longer give any help as they have drop'd all suport of vista
Killtodie
Do not run restore. that is like duct tape.do not uninstall service packs. windows is fragile, when you restore/uninstall big updates its like shooting a wall with a shotgun and then patching it up with duct tape. it wont ever be the same. First, go into MSCONFIG , start, type in MSCONFIG, hit enter. disable unnecessary items in the start up section. restart. Run windows updates, download all critical updates. when that is done, run windows updates again till there is nothing left. any service packs will be downloaded automatically. post back here when that is done. vbrad511
On both the Vista laptops I've put 7 on, both of them had issues with updates which would cause various other functions to cease. Restore would work temporarily with both of them, but they'd be right back to "hosed" every time the machine updated again. The ONLY problem I had with 7 was having to find drivers for audio, which didn't turn out to be a big deal.
