I bought one of these a while back for $50. I have not tried it but it looks like it would work. The tools from all those closed dealerships are hitting Ebay.

Not sure if that would work. The ebay part # is MD-998056-A and in the FSM the part # for the puller is MD998020

They revise the numbers for tools just like parts.

Could be the identical tool with a small improvement to the the original design.

Although most improvements are also done for manufacturing cost in mind, the original tool is usually superior in performance and function.

Some tools are modified from the original design with intent to expand for use in other models.

There are updated print publications from the manufacturer like catalogs with technical service bulletins,

as well as websites for tool manufacturers that use search engines with parameters for obsolete / updated specialty tool numbers.

I understand part #s get updated over time but if you look up the origional part # MD998020 at mitsubishi the part # was never replaced or updated.

The part number you mention has extension arms that were later offered separately.

I believe the part number you have involved the combination of both the puller and extension arms.

The extension arms are part # MD998029-01 and the FSM says Use with MD998020 puller.

That would be fabulous. But just for reference not all part #s get updated. If you type those #s into an online mitsu parts supplier you will get no updated #s.

http://www.oemmitsubishiparts.com/

I've looked up many parts on that site and every so often it will show the origional # and tell me it was updated to a different part #. But when I put in the puller part #s it doesn't list an updated #, just a price.

############## :P I had to do that. Soo many #s in that last statement. :P

What was the problem again?

There is also a brand of puller called posi lock that should work if you get the right one. The extensions can be bought new from miller tools reasonable. http://millerspecialtools.spx.com/Detail.aspx?id=1256&gid=18

You will need a good snap ring pliers, these are flat on the ends. Expect to damage the snap ring so check availability first or use more patients then i did. Edit, the snap rings come in different sizes. You are to use the thickest one that fits back in iirc. Best to take time to get it off with out damaging it.

Lock the trans in two gears so the gears will not spin.

Well I never said it wouldn't work. All I said was I wasn't sure it would because the part # was different.

FYI, I'm the one who bought that puller. I have a few spare trans that need work so I'll find out soon enough.
