We just got an email saying that the city is going to hire 6 new mechanics during 2009. I currently work there, it's not too bad.

starting pay is 19.32 an hour
family plan medical 80/20 cost me about 40 a month (starts day on of hire)
10 vacation days a year (earned as 3.2 hours bi-weekly)
13 sick days a year (earned as 4.0 hours bi-weekly)
10 paid holidays a year (starting day one of hire)
birthday paid/off (can take any day of year with approval, doesn't have to be actual b-day)
You WILL work a shift of some sort starting out (I'm currently on 3rd shift/late week, should last about a year)
Pension plan= 2.5% per year of service, average of 3 highest pay years, 5 year fully vested, 60 years old, or 30 years service
VERY lax management at this point

I'll update further when the jobs are actually posted

I had to pass a drug test during the prehire physical, but haven't been tested since.

The next hiring test will be sometime around April or May.

They will train you for your CDL, but you do have to be ASE certified to be hired. Sorry Candi....lol
