  1. This was Created by the theastronaut I bought an '87 TSi and the stock headlights were terrible! I've done this mod on a couple other cars and the difference is incredible. Pre-made harnesses are available but this who knows what quality they are and if they'll fit without lengthening wires or having extra wires stuffed everywhere. This way the harness is an exact fit and can be hidden from sight. The headlights are Cibie H4 E-code, 200mm. They fit in the stock headlight buckets with zero modifications and use the same plug style as the factory headlights. Just the lights alone are a MAJOR improvement over sealed beams. I used clear Hella 80/100 watt H4 bulbs. Great quality bulbs at a good price. No funky blue coating that diminishes the amount of light output. List of parts used for harness: 12g wire, 1 roll of red and one roll of black. 14g wire. Used for grounding and powering the relays. Heat shrink tubing. Equipment for crimping/soldering the connectors. Ring connectors for 12g wiring- ring sized to fit battery terminals. Four needed. Electrical tape to tightly wrap the harness once you have everything in place. Split wiring loom to protect the harness- especially in the headlight door area. You'll probably need two different diameter of tubing. Relay kit including relay socket and fuse holder. 2 needed (one high beam and one low beam). These are DUAL 87 relays so you can run two headlights off each relay. http://www.ebay.com/...d868812&vxp=mtr http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mzg5WDUwMA==/z/E-wAAOxyiOxR0bLQ/$(KGrHqJ,!qwFG6+HOg2cBR0bLQmkt!~~60_12.JPG Ceramic H4 sockets. These are melt proof- needed with higher wattage bulbs. http://www.ebay.com/...S-/141257141885 http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mzc1WDUwMA==/z/ywcAAOxyjNlR0cvX/$(KGrHqJHJFUFHLmP6NHIBR0cv(M9Pw~~60_12.JPG Male H4 socket kits. Two needed. These will plug into the existing headlight wiring. http://www.ebay.com/...d1e38d5&vxp=mtr http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqF,!i8E2LC6V3m8BNlzOfJSsg~~_1.JPG I don't have an overall diagram so I'll explain what to do. I'll work on making a diagram and post it later. (edit- diagram added) The relays will come with a layout of the prongs; refer to that diagram when wiring the relays. I'll post a layout of the H4 sockets as well. Using unwired sockets lets you run your wire straight into the socket with zero splicing. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/RelayHarnessDiagram.png I went ahead and mounted my relays in the car first. This way you know how long each wire needs to be. You'll pretty much be building the harness in the car, test fitting each section for length and pulling it out to crimp/solder each connection. Then pull the harness out to wrap it once it's finished. Make sure you build it so that the harness can be removed!! Basic layout: Each relay needs to be grounded. I use the ground side of the factory headlight sockets. So one 14g wire from the ground post of the relay to the ground side of the MALE H4 socket. Mark one relay "high" and the other "low". Pick one of the factory headlight sockets to power the low beam relay. Run a wire from the MALE H4 socket to the appropriate low beam relay socket. Use the other factory headlight socket to power the high beam relay. Use the ring connector, inline fuse holder, and 12g wire to run power to the relay straight from the positive battery terminal to each of the relay sockets. Use a separate wire for each relay. From the relay, use the red 12g wire to go from each of the 87 terminals of the low beam relay out to the two ceramic H4 connectors. Repeat for the high beam relay/ceramic sockets. Run a 12g ground wire from each ceramic H4 connector back to the negative battery post. H4 socket layout: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Images/H4_Pinout.jpg Headlights used: Cibie 200mm E-code H4's. I found mine on ebay but they're hard to find there. Daniel Stern Lighting stocks them, and he has them with built in city lights as an option. There are plenty of cheaper H4 lights available but none that match the light output of these. Research Cibie lights if you're not familiar with the brand. Hella's would be my second choice but their light output is nowhere near as nice. Plus Hella's high beam is aimed too high compared to the low beams. Don't use cheap ebay H4's!! The light output is terrible!! http://www.danielste...s/products.html http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Facebook/September%2019%202011/10492356_10154270961530468_7190825131850132059_n.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Facebook/September%2019%202011/10348392_10154287702630468_3933194693578013396_n.jpg And some action shots. Extremely sharp cut-off on low beams for reduced glare even with higher wattage bulbs. There's no back glare in rain or fog so you won't need fog lights. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Mobile%20Uploads/image-2.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Mobile%20Uploads/image-3.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Mobile%20Uploads/image-4.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss14/theastronaut/Mobile%20Uploads/image-5.jpg
  2. O.K fellow clubbers natallica is back with something you'll truely dig! It took a little work to get these right, now here they are: Gauge Hood Lightswitch Inserts In your choice of 3 Colors to match your interior lighting scheme. OEM "Star Wars" ORANGE http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff408/n8tallica1/SQC%20Items/DSC01786-1.jpg ELECTRIC BLUE http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff408/n8tallica1/SQC%20Items/DSC01787-1.jpg WHITE http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff408/n8tallica1/SQC%20Items/DSC01788-1.jpg * It requires a little bit of care and a subtle hand while taking your existing lightswitches apart to remove the old ones and replace with these. Then again we all enjoy taking these cars apart to make them better, right? Just want to make you aware that there is a possbility that something may crumble or snap when you overtighten or strip the screws out of your 20+ year old unit. I assume no responsibility in the removal and application of this product into your switches. * * * With that being said, these will look awesome and compliment any interior lighting scheme, whether you're sticking with "Star Wars" Orange, or closely matching Mookeeh Indiglo Gauges...these are what you need to get it looking like new again. * * * Pricing for these inserts will be $20.00 /per set of 2 - Shipped ANYWHERE in the U.S usually within 1 day of ordering. * * My paypal address is: natallica@comcast.net *In the Paypal notes please provide the preferred color Insert... along with you mailing address and screen name. * * * Thanks Guys, lemme know what you think. If you like them let 'em know by leaving me good feedback here. -N8 ...More to come, hang in there!!!
  3. Newbie question: I am in the process of restoring a 87 Conquest. For some reason, I am unable to get the headlights to open on the car. I have checked/replaced all of the fuses and they are good. The switches inside the car seem to be working. The relays appear to be okay, but I am not 100% positive. Can someone let me know what else I need to check to see what could be causing the problem?
  4. kind of cool looking. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-7X6-LED-PROJECTOR-GLASS-DIAMOND-CUT-HEADLIGHTS-LAMPS-w-H4-BULBS-LEFT-RIGHT-/380897812216?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AStarion&hash=item58af475ef8&vxp=mtr http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzgwWDc4MA==/z/5agAAOxywh1TDBYg/$_12.JPG
  5. Looking to buy headlight switch for 87 conquest. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest. I know I haven't been on this forum for a long time but I am certainly not new to these vehicle and have been in the background on this forum for a while. I have purchased a few things from various members recently the most expensive being fishfud's restored red 87 quest. I am daily driving her as I work on my Gold 87 Multiport project. Just giving you guys a little info about me. Anyway I have an account with a leading supplier of HID kits that come with lifetime warranty on bulbs and ballasts. These aren't the cheesy kits on ebay they are a quality product that I have been using for over 7 years. Price would be $50.00 per HID kit shipped. Colors range from 3k - 12k and ballast would be a slim 35 watt. Add $10.00 if you wanted to upgrade to a 55w ballast. Add $20.00 if you want Hi/lo dual bulb (regular bulb would just be low beam so you would lose the High beam). Add $55.00 if you want sealed beam headlight conversion. Let me know if there is any interest. To clarify : Any HID Kit 35w ballast - $50.00 shipped, HID Kit 55w ballast - $60 shipped 7" x 6" headlight conversion with 35W ballast kit - $105 shipped 7" x 6" headlight conversion with 35W ballast kit & hi/lo - $125 shipped 7" x 6" headlight conversion with 55w ballast kit - $115 shipped 7" x 6" headlight conversion with 55w ballast kit & hi/lo - $135 shipped Any 35w ballast HID Kit with Hi/Low feature - $75.00 shipped Any 55w ballast HID Kit with Hi/Low - $80.00 shipped The Headlight conversion is a quality alternative based off the Hella design specifically for HID kits. They feature a flat cutoff on top of the beam pattern to ensure controlled lighting (not blinding on coming traffic). Note: The hi/low bulbs do not get brighter when high beams are applied. These kits contain an extra wiring harness and the bulbs contain a magnetic base that when energized plunge the bulb slightly forward so that the HID beam projects higher and further allowing the extra visibility needed in high beam situations. 35 Watt ballasts produce approx. 100% more light than factory (measured in lumens) 55 Watt produce 40% more than the 35 watt (measured in lumens) Colors: 3000k is yellow, 5000k (35 watt) & 6000k (55 watt) are white, and 12k purple (kelvin heat scale) I am in contact with company to try and get even lower prices but I need to see what kind of interest if any. I know there are many products out there and some at cheaper prices but none of better quality.
  7. I'm having some weird issues with the Headlights and Fog Lights on my car, and was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction on where to start. Headlights: - Turns on/Flips up with no problems; In-synch with one another. - Turns off erratically. - WILL NOT turn off by simply pressing the "Off" button. - I have to hold down the "Off" button, and repeatedly tap the headlight button for it to *work it's way* down. - Headlights will not close in synch with one another. (One will close more than the other.) Fog Lights: - Will not turn on by pressing the "Fog Light" button. (I have not found a pattern on how to make the fog lights turn on, but the light itself does come on when randomly pushing through the light buttons. ) Will try to provide a video of this bizarre light activity. Thank you kindly.
