  1. This thread is dedicated to the restoration of my first car, a 1988 Mitsubishi Starion. I bought it on December 8th, 2012 (2 days after my 18th birthday) from a local man who was selling his project because he wanted to spend more time with his grandchildren. On the way home it wouldn't hold any RPM's and eventually stalled out. Luckily we weren't far from home, and we're friends with a local tow truck driver. At first we thought it was a bad fuel pump or a dirty tank, but upon giving it a fresh battery, it started and ran fine. Since then I've put on 2 front tires that hold air (they were used tires from our pile, but hey, they were free), since the old ones were rotten and leaky (I will be putting on a set of brand new ones before I'm finished the project). 2 weeks ago I pulled the radiator before starting a 2 week long condensed college course, so i was unable to do anything aside from ordering a new radiator. Today I discovered that my new radiator does not have the two holes at either side of the bottom of the tank where the coolant temperature sensors for the fans plug into, which brings me to my first of many questions, how should I go about solving this? Is there a way to have the coolant temp sensors somewhere else, or do I have to buy a different radiator? I also need to get the wastegate working properly. Should i be able to move it freely without the car running or should I not be able to move the linkage at all? right now I haven't seen it move with the car off, idling, or running at a higher speed. I know the vacuum lines are routed wrong, but does it sound like I will need a new wastegate solenoid? Anyway, thing still on the list of things to do: Front Wheel Bearings Strut Rod Bushings Drain and fill differential/trans Brake hoses Fix parking brake Complete brake job (drilled and slotted rotors?) Sway bar bushings Tires Polish wheels Paint-(going with Summit's Acrylic Urethane System-Merlot color) Possibly an aftermarket intake Fix an exhaust leak at the flange behind the second catalytic converter Some parts I could use some help finding: Wheel center caps? I cant find them anywhere... Rear wiper motor Rear wiper arm is rusted and bent Here's a picture of the day I brought it home, as well as a picture of the paint color I'm getting If you have any suggestions or answers to my questions, your help is much appreciated. Colin
  2. PRICE IS OBO and lowered again!!!! Cant flex much but its in great shape minus some old paint and a couple of dents i dont consider major. Zero rust underside, wish I had the money to buy it for myself but I already have one needing some work. Im helping to sell this for my friend b/c he is helping me out for helping him to sell it. Ill have an 87 up soon once I get a car running and can drive up for more than 2 pics I have currently. 1988 Durban and red interior leather. Tires on it are 205/55/16 V and 245/50/16 V rated and are all a bit dry rotted.. Has about 69,000 miles on it, all original. Looks like SHP wheels on it but I havent removed the wheels, but they have the little symbol cast on the outer facing spoke on all 4. The only bad thing I know about the car is it may need a new trans/rebuild or an adjustment (update: if you start off in L and move it to Drive everything seems to work fine). Clean original 88 title showing 2 miles on it included with a duplicate title to be signed over. I think you would be owner #2 in the end! Ill be selling it for him so I will need to arrange to have it up at my work which is where I would like to do all the showing and transactions. Last fall he wanted to get $3500 for it but I told him all original and 69,000 miles with a bad auto trans wouldn't get him close to that. But I've managed to convince him to lower his hopes under $2000. It needs new vacuum lines and a tune up but the gas in it has been good and not gel'd up. The engine is all stock with nothing on the car removed There is no damage to the underside of the car and no rust anywhere. it might have a hair of rust at the front of the wheel well on the passenger side rear that has some rocks and dirt i tried to clean out so some TLC and a quick look is all it needs. Everything works as far as I could tell including the AC. Might need the window switch to be cleaned up the passenger window didn't want to go down at first. A tune up could be used along with some fluid flushes which I would do but they may not be needed. Some of the rubber seals are bad on the top/outside of the sunroof and the paint is fading. No water leaks as far as I can tell Has an after market lever release radiator cap 13lb cap which I personally don't like and there is no battery hold down. Interior is good minus the chunk missing from the back bolster on the left side driver seat but it feels great. Needs all new wipers, the rubber on these are non existent but I might take care of that for the sake of everyone! Includes the OEM bag for the sunroof if you take it off. That's all I can remember....Please ask questions if you need more pics......keep the thread clean and PM me please!! 3. Important: 88/89 Fiji Blue Conquest Tsi in Jessup, MD. JUNKYARD!!!!!!! Apparently the owner wanted to just get rid of it. There's also a couple others in there as well. I believe there's even a flatbody. The Fiji is in PERFECT condition so it seems. I personally didn't see anything wrong with it. Body looks to have no rust. Paint looks good. Engine Looks good from view. Just a couple things taken off of it like the header panel, trim peice underneath the header panel, and the rear bumper. Sadly...they informed me they won't sell the whole car. Greedy .... you know. The shipping on everything i believe is free. The number to call is 1-888-574-5702. It pains me to see such a perfect car get crushed because someone didn't want to sell it to someone who'd take care of it. Please save as much as you can from this one. Thanks, Charles Palka
