  1. smog, i got my engine mounted up and good to go, fire wall had to be pushed back as well as the tranny tunnel. on the negative, it looks as if i may have to rebuild my getrag. the guy who had it before me beat the hell out of it. you know if the 7m would bolt up to a 2jz? its pretty much the same as a 1jz. there was a wrecked up supra in a junk yard here, 50 bucks for the tranny. not sure if it'd match up, but i would consider buying it if i knew it'd mate up ok. i'm going to start routing the intercooler, then begin wiring the sensors for the TEC3. i wont get to work on it till after christmas, but shes got a ways to go yet.
  2. what kinda drive shaft and rear end are you goin with? the stabilizer i'm not too worried about, i've got a CNC shop, plasma cutter, and a welder, so i can pretty much fabricate whatever i need. things are going well so far for the swap, i began work on the fire wall and tranny tunnel, i need to buy some sheet metal to weld in there before i can go any further, hopefully next weekend. hows yours coming along?
  3. i just want to do it because i have a 500+ hp 2jz in my garage with a tranny, and its crazy. who does something like that? should be one of the only 2jz quests around. everybody's seen a 4g63 quest, everybody has seen a v8 quest, time for something new and different. besides, the 2jz gives it to the 4g63 in the pooper.
  4. by measuring off the engine, i dont think i'll have to do an extensive amount of cutting, but i do plan to tunnel my chassis a bit to get the getrag lined up ok. i'm bouncing around wether i'm going to scrap the mounts for solid engine mounts, it makes the ride pretty rough, but it'd be more liberal when it came to getting it where i wanted it. i'm not sure how my weight distribution is gonna be with that getrag, but i see what youre saying about the oil pan issues, not sure what i'm gonna do about that so far. what tranny did you use and how far back were you able to push the engine without cross member issues? it'd be a huge help if i could keep a fairly stock setup with the brakes. it looks like the chassis/frame is gonna have to be beefed a little to withstand higher horsepower issues. i gotta finish ripping the rest of the old quest components out and hammering out the blower motor/heater core issues. i'm using a fuel cell setup, so the fuel pump's not a huge issue. this january i may try to relocate fuel source to the stock location instead of the trunk, but i've got bigger fish to fry in the mean time. i'll be making my own intake and exhaust mani's and running a tec3 to save on wiring issues, its relatively cheap and i'm familiar with tec2's. keep me updated on your build, we could probably be more sucessful if we put our heads together whenever we run into a snag.
  5. ok, today i began the process of putting a 2jz supra engine into a 89 conquest. i'm sure i'll need as much constructive criticism as possible. i heard that someone has done this before? anybody know who that was? if so i'd like to get ahold of them. the goal is to fit the complete engine under the stock hood, with stock shifter location using a getrag 6speed. i'm gonna start by making a complete list of tough stuff (i.e. radiator mounting, intercooler mounting, engine mounts, tranny mounts, possible necessity of a fabricated shifter linkage, steering clearances, etc.) the wiring i've got handled, but pretty much everything else is up in the air. began the tear down today, and next week hope to have the engine mounts planned out with the bare block i have, then figure out the tranny mounting (probably have to tunnel the chassis and completely scrap the stock dash). then cut the old mounts out, cnc the new ones, weld em up and try and get them in. lot of tough fabrication ahead. i hope you guys can help me along the process, this will definately not be easy. what i do have is a complete running drive train out of an 89 quest for sale, anything you guys need just let me know. i've got everything, and its all got about 60k orgional miles, still in great shape. i'll keep you guys updated with troubles and trials along the way, i'll need the input!
  6. zex is a dry setup isnt it? you can just use any wet kit from nos really, i used it on mine at a 50 shot and it worked wonders for the turbo. i had my fogger in the OVCP right before it hits the mixer. worked well fo what i wanted it to do.
  7. is there a way to avoid that? maybe putting clear coat over the polished metal?
  8. i was just curious if removing the clear coat and the polishing process makes the rims any more likely to rust or rot. anybody know?
  9. what kit is that?? and what kinda car was it origionally for?
  10. One of my cars has a little bit of rust on the rear driverside fender, by the back of the rear wheel well. if i have this taken care of how likely is it to come back? what should i do to get rid of it? can i get a replacement fender? any body got any suggestions?
  11. No big deal bro. Tell your bud i hope his hand feels better. Hopefully his car didnt get messed up too bad too. I hate to see when that kinda thing happens, theres just nothing good about it. no bright side to look on except that hes ok, and the car can be fixed. anyways, let us know if he ever gets back to producing the bumpers, god speed to your friend feeling better! pacc
  12. I'm working on a slotted header panel (nose panel) much like you see on newer 300zx TT's. thus far it looks pretty nice, but with an 83 hood you kinda get an over kill of scoops. i'll post up some pics once i get it finished and mounted on the car. paccie
