  1. I think that the WinTec software for tec 2 and 3 are the most user friendly, every field that you can change there is a very detailed help screen available by press F1. And its easy to get you car up and running. Also with the data logging its very helpfull. Juts my .02 :-) Ben D
  2. Just wondering if anyone had a good bin file with a good running quest on the magna mpi? May be worth our while to set up a data base according to specs and horespower so we all dont have to spend 400 bucks on dyno time. I will be going to xx tunning later next month hopefully to tune my quest. I just need to finish powder coating my hard pipes and get the damn tach working Ben D
  3. yea it was the 8920 i tried, yes i did try hooking it up both ways but with no luck, but on the other hand it was used so that may have played a part?? i dont know. im gonna do some more resurch and see what sort or signal comes from the tech, ill keep you updated Ben D
  4. All is up and running and looks good (though i real sick of crimp connectors and heat shiunk tubing lol) But it doesnt seem as tho i can get the tach to work? I have it hooked to the TEC-ll output and that  didnt work, i tried the factory buffer/booster, no go there. I tried a 8290 tach adapter and that faid to work. Anyone have this problem? Let me know Ben D
  5. But what size turbo? It will make a diffrence depending on the CFM rating of the turbo. What sort of hp?? But if you plan on shooting for 400HP you will need at least 750s of 72lbs Ben D
  6. I found it was too much of a pain to use studs so i use 40mm long allen bolts, seems to work better. Even got it running last night!!! Ben D
  7. The real hot set up is direct fuel injection (as seen in a 1954 M-B 300SLR (gullwing) But thats far away from the starquest world But another note is even with an injector firing while the valve is closed the fuell will not puddle due in part buy the high tempatures of the intake valve. The heat will vaporize the fuel. But the A/F mixture will still wait untill the valve reopens but now rather then there being atomized (spelling?)fuel there is a complete a/f mixture. Another key advantage to to a MPI set up is thata "wet" manifold carb or TBI will flow around 5% less air (CFM) then a dry manifold. Due to the expansion of the fuel and the weight and volume of it Fun stuff, some very smart people on this board! Ben D
  8. The biggest problem would be the lack of a CAN network and you do have to remember that the pcm will be built or mapped for that engine and not the 2.6. Wich are two totaly diffrent engines. Timming curve, cam profiles , ect... Would just be way to much work my .02 Ben D
  9. Ya i did jump the pins 7 and 8 i think it was i cant remember now that im home but i did try that Ive thought about moving the control unit inside but there would be way to much EMF problems with running primary coil wire that far of a diffrence, plus ive yet to talk to anyone that has had a problem with the tec exposed to the weather. As long as it doesnt get soaked Ben D
  10. Update if anyone wants to know. I did build the new cable with no change in how it works. But here is some good news. Just for the hell of it i connected my crank trigger and hocked up the plug wires and it will run off the ignition side of the tec (stock FI still) so i know it works and i do have the check engine function operating along with the two sensor grounds, 5+ sensor voltage and my fuel pump output. I have a DB25 cable i hacked this and will try that. Also i will try grounding the GND from the laptop to the actual chassis ground (as recomended by the TEC softwear) Ill keep you updated! Thanks again all! Ben D
  11. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the cable (db9) fromt he TEC to the lap top. I was able to load a bin file in once and read the engine mornting functions once. But sence then ive had no luck.... Odd. I bought a set of Db9 female conectors this weekend and plane to build a new cable from scratch ( i used a seriel cable from radio shack the first time and cut it) Just thought id see if anyone has had this problem. I have verfied it is on COM port 2 by the way Ben D
  12. Well after Chiplee posted i got an e-mail the next day from Ray iunforming me the intake should be done by the end of the week. Then friday he informed me the batch had been finished, and he would let me know when the manifolds would be shipped. So thats brought some good news! Ben D
  13. Well im glad to hear that from you guys, i understand this is a custom peice so its not a big deal about the wait. Just as i said before its nice to know whats going on Thanks again for responding all Ben D
  14. Ya i also had sent my payment on the 17th of Oct. and only one replay came from Ray saying he hadnt recieved my pay-pal notice saying i paid him and that it would take a week to fab. the intake. I dont mind if its another month from now till i get it just a response so i know that all ios well down under and that ill recieve my intake in some amount of time Ben D
  15. I had sent a e-mail and apay-pal amout to glenn or ray who ever deals with the intakes at 4Gmitsu.. I only revieved one e-mail back and have not had any other replies, Ive made atempts to call but no one picks up or it doesn't work. I just wanted to ensure my 450$$ had made it to him. So im wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem?? Thanks a lot Ben D
