  1. Cast iron log FTW. The stock cast iron manifold worked great on all the Starions that won endurance road races back in the day. Tube headers generally suck on every level. This conclusion was reached after installing and running them on a couple aspirated V8 engines. I can't even imagine how much they would suck with red-hot and then cold turbocharger bolted up to the tubes. Iron log!
  2. No, I haven't tried bleeding the brakes yet. I'll do that this weekend. I am hoping that's all it is, but it just randomly started doing it one day. I am gonna give it a shot and see. Is it hard to swap out the master on these cars?

Flush all the old fluid and bleed the system with some new stuff. Water in brake fluid will cause it to boil. No brakes! There's a hose from the booster to the manifold that gets pretty crusty too. A leak there and there will be problems.

  3. Changed to fwd in 84 here. Went to 99 before changing to echo/platz/Yaris/vitz.

I have a 1982 Starlet. I used to live down in SoCal but I live in the bay area now. The KP60 and KP61 are rear wheel drive. The cars weigh almost nothing, but the stock engine doesn't make a whole lot of juice. Fun as hell to drive around though. Put some decent shoes on, install a set of camber plates and a strut tower bar, and they handle like go-karts. CUSCO still makes the goods! They used to race the little buggers back in the day in Japan. TRD made a bunch of go-fast stuff for the Starlet. All discontinued. Check out some TRD-equipped Starlets in action. The sound on this video is epic.

  4. I picked up one of those cordless deals from Harbor Freight Tools too. Works great at the junkyard. Should work for what you need it for. The same place has a 21-gallon compressor and a starter set of air tools. Mine has held up since 2003. Don't use it much but it wasn't all that pricey either.
