  1. The guages are cyberdyne units from Summit. You'll have to build a mount to hold them as well.
  2. The rack 199.00 (new) the U-joints 3 @ 70.00 (210.00) The Heim ends to replace tie rod ends 2 @ 25.00 (50.00) The heim to hold the steering shaft still 25.00, and the labor to do all that I told you had to be done (depends on whether you can do it all) but probably 30-40 hrs at shop rate if you can't. Looks to be around 1500.00 if you have to pay to have it done.
  3. How much money you got? It really was a bunch of work. The steering column had to be opened up and shortened, so that the u-joint that coupled the rack could be moved back far enough to get the right angle. Additionally, When you get rid of the steering box, the steering column loses its' front anchor point. You have to build a firewall support for the column, and you lose the tilt function. W/ the 4 cyl in the car, the mount options might be better, but I know that isn't the case for you. As a footnote, there is a 280ZX in the shop now, and guess what comes on it from the factory? A manual rear steer rack, w/ narrow inner pivot points. Might be worth looking into.
  4. Finally!!! The rack and front suspension crap that went with it is behind me. We take it friday to the front end alignment shop. Ck out my profile for my website details to view photos and read all about it!.
  5. The bumpsteer problem is solved. I just had to keep spacing the tie rod ends lower and lower (about 2") until the thing started to respond favorably (less than .060 toe-out at full bump) the next problem is gonna be the wheel interferance. Even though i had custom centerlines made for the car, the front wheels still measure 16x7 w/ 5" bs. That should be the same as the factory wheels. I will add an 1/8th in spacer to move the wheel out off of the caliper to see if this remedies the clearance issue. If not, I'll either have to heat the tie rod end on the spindle and move it in ,or cut it off and fabricate it in a relocated position. I will definantly take a barrage of photos tommorrow if this works and update the web site, as it also will detail what you'll have to do to get the steering to couple to the rack.
  6. I've done it! It wasn't easy and will probably require more work than alot of you want to do. If you haven't already you can read all about it at my website (go to profile and click on build-up of 87 conquest prompt to see if you want the headache. :-/
  7. Thanks for the positive comments, I'll try to answer all questions w/ this one post. There is a ford motor in the thing cause it fits better than any other V-8 out there. I've thought about the morals of putting a ford motor in a chrysler, but it's not really a mopar now is it?. I will go to steel when it is done this spring and the 400 hp is w/o the spray. The drag quest is mine no longer, but I may be able to scan a few shots into the website w/the wheels up in the air. That car ran 5.65 1/8th mi times at steel just last summer. Black engine compartments are not a "ford guy" character flaw, the color just goes better w/ the ford red I painted the block. And yes, putting the motor in the car is a lot of work. Mostly from the steering. The drag car had the factory steering box w/o the PS pump this car has kicked my but several times trying to get all the little issues fixed, the worst being the bumpsteer from the rack. Just wait till you read what i had to go through to get over that hurdle, but go to the website, I'll have it updated in a couple of days to reflect my journey into hell! I think that about covers it. :
  8. finally got website built. interested parties can go to my profile and click on website info to get there. thanks!
  9. I've put one on my 87, haven't had a chance to flog it yet. I bought a rear steer pinto unit from unisteer for 200.00. it wasn't easy and I may change it. the steering linkage is a pretty sharp angle, I have photos...
  10. your gonna have to help me on this one, I've been spending the last week desiging a web page for the sole purpose of laying it all out in detail but haven't got it quite finished yet. if you want to see, tell me how to get a few on here and I'll be happy to accomodate

  12. Not only did I use a 3550, but i replaced the whole front half of the drive train w/ a 5.7 l ford engine as well. would post pics if I knew how
