  1. This is so typical, THIS is the type of stuff in which you guys get hacked. Jimmy, read the posts, I share a piece of knowledge and I get slammed by the owner of the forum and accused of being some degenerate anarchist. No, the door won't hit me on the way out, you want to ban? BAN. Banning solves everything, thats why you guys can't keep a stable forum running right? Ryddler I am not the one who needs a "new path", you're the one running into complications here.

This is completely off base. I asked you a simple question in jest to put you on the spot (yes, actually poking fun) because the way you presented all your information made it sound like you knew exactly what happened to the site (which you don't), and in such a way as to indicate you knew what/who did it.

Yes I had noticed that you hadn't been stirring up any trouble, although your statement here "THIS is the type of stuff in which you guys get hacked" is completely unfounded and uncalled for. This was not in any way meant to be a Kenquest witch hunt, and I don't intend to make it one, so please, lets all just get along.

and if they pissed you off, that's because your actions in the past completely warranted the actions brought against you.

Although I do respect most of the moderators here...

I have to disagree with this one.

Kate, I'm sorry if you felt that my statement was in any way encompassing you. Ken was a bit less than amicable or willing to see anything from any standpoint than his own back then, and that statement was really only meant to cover his actions at that time. Please contact me directly if there's an issue that we need to resolve.

  2. Now Ryddler, I do not believe I have disrespected your forum since I've been back, but it would now appear that you are trying to accuse me of something I did not do based on the fact that I am educating your under achieving moderators on something they really have no business explaining to the members of SQC. The simple fact is, you have no clue who hacked the forum, or where it came from, you will never know, no matter who you blame it on or how many people you accuse. It is no secret that someone here pissed off whoever did it.

I didn't actually accuse you of anything, and I don't believe you have any idea exactly what I know about who hacked the forum or how, so I really don't think you should be putting words in my or anyone else's mouths. You yourself have no idea what happened, so please don't try to presume you do, or even make it look like you do.

And yes, you actually disrespected the entire community here by disrespecting the moderators. Most, if not all, of the community here respects the work the moderators do, the thankless jobs they have volunteered to do, and if they pissed you off, that's because your actions in the past completely warranted the actions brought against you. You have been given a second chance to participate in this community, and calling the moderators here underachievers is not a good start on a new path.

  3. Internet Exploder is pretty bad about not actually rereading sites, and trying to load pages from its local temp copy because the default settings are really crap.

As far as the logging in every time, I'm investigating. Problem is I can't duplicate the problems you guys are reporting because it "just works" for me (and yes I have tested it in IE). Perhaps everyone who is experiencing the issue of having to log in each time could post their browser and version like so:

    Browser: Firefox

    Version: 2

    OS: Linux

You can copy and paste this info from this page: http://www.starquestclub.com/util/browsertest.html

Also, are you loading www2.starquestclub.com or www.starquestclub.com?

  4. You don't know that. What you did was a Visual Trace Route which pointed you to a proxy server, which any hacker with a brain would use before hacking a site.

Forums get hacked all day long. It happens when you use open source programs and scripts. Especially when you're not updating them frequently. I knew it'd happen here the day they went to phpBB, it's notorious for it's security issues.

There's not a thing wrong with open source. Many open source programs are far superior to any of their closed source counterparts. And who uses Visual Trace Route?

Well easy, moderators pissed some people off and that was their way of getting back at them.

This coming from someone who not even 2 weeks ago was drawing ascii weiner art to reference the moderators here, and until the site changeover was also banned from here.

Anyone with a web browser could hack it. It's done through cookies. phpBB would create a cookie in your web browser... this is how it authenticates. Edit a string in the cookie, phpBB now thinks you're an admin.

Hmm, you seem to be pretty insightful into this whole thing, and it appears you have a thing against the mods... Do you have something you want to share with the community, Ken?

  5. How is the member number figured? by post count? it cant be by date joined cause that was my first thought and it definately does not work out.

The member number comes from the alphabetical order your name was in when we moved to the last forum software. The software prior to that did not have the usernames in a database, so it kept one long file of one name per line. Your number is the position you were in when I did the conversion from that system, to the last system. Anyone that came in after that conversion will have an accurate number.

  6. little bit of a bug here guys,, it won't let me reply with out " quoteing "

That's actually not a bug Shelby, if you click the reply at the bottom of each post it *does* quote the post, indicated by the little quote marks on the button. A true reply without quotes is found at the bottom of the thread.

  7. Durrr. We're talking about a box at the bottom of the page where you type in a reply and click quick reply, not one that brings up another page for typing a reply.

There is a fast reply at the bottom of each thread, but you also have to enable it in your profile. Go to "My Controls" -> "Board Settings" and look for "Open Fast Reply automatically when available?"

  8. What happened to the dark gray skin color with white text? That's how I set it up back when it was pre-released last year..

I just checked the old test version(it's still up) and the skin was called "red dreams".. Much easier on the eyes over time.

Give me a few days to get all caught up, and then I'll look into getting some new skins in place.

  9. how long does it take to get files ok'd? I uploaded some stuff 2 days ago and still show nothing in the gallery?

Stuff put into your personal gallery requires no approval. Front page pics are the only thing that requires approval, and those are approved whenever I remember to check. Many times I have to delete files that are uploaded because they are larger than 800 x 600 or are obviously pics that were meant to be in a personal gallery (not front page), but the user didn't create a personal gallery folder using the steps above.
