  1. I am sure you have seen the article on Car and Driver from the organizers of the 24 Hours of LeMons which says our Starquests are the worst possible choice of car for their event that anyone could ever make. I however am excited to take my Starion to some SoCal track day events (not for endurance racing, but rather your standard track day with 20min runs at a time). I have spent the last 6 months getting my Starion up to OEM level daily driver status. It has a non-jet valve head, new radiator, runs cool at all outside tempts, high flow fuel pump, only 10psi etc. I have fresh brake fluid, pads, rotors, etc.

I guess my question is, is there anybody still tracking their Starquests, or have I lost my mind thinking my 29 year old car is going to survive even one track day event? Also, if you are in the SoCal area come join me in about a month!

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I have installed an air/fuel ratio gauge and notice that under WOT, I go only as rich as around .76-.80. Is this rich enough or do I have a problem? (It's only the first green bar on a standard narrow band air/fuel ratio guage). My car is running stock fuel system at about 10psi, with Walbro 255 pump.

    Thanks!

  3. Hello everyone, I am pulling my hair out over this one and need help, almost ready to pass this Starion along but can't do that! No way! Have done a ton of searching and have looked through the FSM and tested everything I can think of.

My car is an 86 running stock fuel system with new fuel pump, injectors, CTS, TPS and ISC reset. I keep throwing an 02 code, and while monitoring the 02 voltage while driving, it looks like I go into closed loop fine (.1 volts oscillating to .9) when up to temp, but after driving for 20 min or so, 02 voltage drops to super low (.01 or so) and part throttle driveability goes to crap, like it's running super lean. Of course, if I go WOT, it goes open loop, the 02 immediately goes nice and rich, and the car pulls fine.

I have good injectors, new CTS, no boost leaks, have tried multiple brand new 02 sensors, swapped out the ECU, and have swapped out three "working" mass air flow sensors. My question is why am I able to go into a closed loop for a while but then it runs super lean. Unplugging the MAS puts it into open loop, and it runs super rich, and driveability is excellent (so I know it's not a mechanical fuel delivery problem.) My best guess at the moment is trying another MAS? Is it possible all three are bad? What am I overlooking? I don't want to go hacking up another "faulty" sensor connector only to find out it's not the problem.

    Thanks!

  4. Recieved and installed mine in about 2 hours (I am slow). Entirely transformed my steering, my original coupler must have been especially worn (only 30 years old!) This is a beautiful piece, in form and function, instrumental if we are going to keep these cars on the road where they should be (as we all know the oem parts are NLA at any cost).

I nominate BC_99 as starquestclub man of the year!

Now my next request is for you to manufacture true replacement oem style injectors. I have a little stockpile of used oem injectors but am paranoid someday I will run out. Anyway, off topic I know.

    Thanks!

  5. Hello, everyone. Well, after 28 years of lusting after widebody Starquests, I finally got one. I found a clean example about three hundred miles away in Sacramento and talked my friend who has a truck into helping me tow it home. It was probably driveable, but had leaking injectors and we all know how that could have turned out.

I have been a diehard Mitsubishi fan my whole life, starting with a 1g Eclipse, then a 2g Talon, then a Galant VR4, and now an Evo 8 for my daily driver. I wish I still had them all, but currently only have the Evo and now the Starion, which are perfect companions.

My goal with the Starion (my wife calls it a "Japanese Toy Robot", she just doesn't understand its awesomeness!) is to bring it back to reliable stock condition running stock engine management and to keep it able to pass California smog, which is a true nightmare. I went through years of tuning my Galant VR4 (which is basically a 1g 4G63) with S-AFC, Maf Translators, etc. which was okay at the time, but always left me endlessly tweaking, running too ruch, too lean, start up issues, etc. My goal is to keep it really simple with the Starion, with OEM fuel management with boost maybe bumped to 10psi (isn't that fuel cut for a 1986?)

Thanks to the board for already helping me out with some OEM injectors that don't leak, you guys saved me!

At some point, I want to take it for very easy going track days because it was designed for that and because these cars deserve to be driven! Let me know if you are in Southern California and want to join me. Thanks again everyone, see you on the board.

    Tim

  6. I am in desperate need of working 86 OEM injectors. (I need to keep my California car basically stock for smog and collectible reasons.) The injectors don't have to be perfect, some leaking around the injector cap is okay, as long as the injector is not stuck open or beyond all hope. I am willing to pay a good amount of $$$ for some working injectors, thanks!
