  2. Sweet, that's exactly what my plans are Two roads to go down, keep it stock or modify. I understand the dudes that modify, fair play but I like keeping it stock. Right down to the little things, steering wheel, radio/cassette etc. Which radio/cassette is it, the one with the equalizer. Your car looks mint, love the grey interior. :D
  3. Hey mate, kinda in a similar situation to yourself. My problem is parts, it really ticks me off sometimes and I think about throwing the towel in. You want a top class job and don't see the point in settling for less, I agree. Everyone has a different idea of what is expectable. All I can say is stay true to what you want but most of all stay positive! You have had some nice reply's which shows people care and sympathise. By the way, she looks awesome . . . . . . .just think what she will be like when FINISHED
  4. Trying to upload some more pics from photo bucket that would give a better idea of the tin worm issues. Hopefully this link will work

Thanks for all the comments guys, I don't think she is too bad myself but this being my first Starion it's hard for me to say. That's where this site and you guys come in, cause you have all had more experience with them and know whether she is a peach or rotten as a pair.

The biggest issues I think are:-

    Scuttle panel

    Passenger outer / inner cill

There are some holes throught both inner wings (fenders) but not to bad

Have'nt taken the paint of the rear arches yet so time will tell with them.

Underneath seems pretty good, solid in fact, chassis legs are good, have been told they can go at the front.

Early stages yet but doesn't seem to bad, could be a lot worse I think

  5. Ok, here goes. I am posting some pictures of my lovely Mitsi and I am hoping that unlike the title say's she will NOT rust in peace. I took hold of her last autumn and like most older cars, they seem good on the face of it, only when you strip them down does it become apparent that they are not as good as they seem. So here are some pre stripped pics to get the ball rolling. I have not stripped her down completely yet be will do. I have bought a mig welder and have been carrying out the 3 P's . . . . practice, practice and practice. If I feel confident enough I will tackle the job myself, otherwise will go to someone I know for the bodywork.
  6. Had a look at your car on restoration page, done a lot of nice work and looking good. Plans for my car is to strip her down, get rid of any tin worm restore her back to factory condition. I like keeping it original, everyone to there own, there is no right or wrong, modifications / updating or original, depends which way you swing. Saying that I would like to get the power close to 200 bhp if possible lol
  7. Hi Dan, instrument panel removal page 87, good breakdown. How long roughly did it take you to take it out and are there many multi connectors that you have to unplug. I really don't want the hassle of taking it out but if I want to restore her correctly then I feel it has to be done, like you said, when you have water coming in, behind the dash can be part of the problem.

    Cheers

    Al

  8. :) <_< :)Don't quite get the forum and how to reply to individual posts, don't think you can. I think you can only reply to the last person that messaged you. Not so good, so I will have to message as follows:

Importwarrior: Thanks for the reply's and hope to see how you get on with sorting you conquest, it looks pretty good to me.

Sotty: 30 odd yrs in Glasgow and you still have all your marbles, you have done well. I am 48 yrs, they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, that must make me some sort of a legend lol. All kidding aside I love Scotland and proud to be Scottish.

Colin: Clan Elliot & Moffat, you have true Scottish blood running through your Veins, nice to hear from you, what car do you have and what's your plans?

For everyone else that has kindly left a message and made me feel welcome, all the best to you.

  9. Cheers for the info mate, nice to get a heads up on how things work here. I will do my utmost to keep the dialect clean, a hard job when you have been brought up in Glasgow lol. Although I have already learned some new language, I wrote a specific word and when I saw it posted it was different . . . . .so now I know what TAIL means :D

What car do you have, a Sarion or Conquest?

  10. Hi, I have been quite surprised by the amount of welcomes I have had. I thought the site would be crap to be honest, but have been proven wrong lol. It's nice to see there are decent people out there enjoying life and not letting THE MAN pull them down. Being new I don't quite know how to reply to individual threads, there are two buttons, MultiQuote and Quote next to each reply and I don't know which one you use to reply to that individual person, maybe someone can tell me.

So for now I will put out a generic message till I know what I am doing lol . Always been messing about with cars since I was 15, looking forward to getting the Starion back to her former glory, they are great cars with bags of character, unlike the jelly mould cars of today. Only thing is they are rarer than " hens teeth " making it a pain in the tail to get parts.

Anyways thanks for the welcome guys and will be popping my head in every now and again, see what kind of mischief youse are up to lol, will post some more pics of the car laters.

Will reply to all individually when I figure out how to reply to the individual threads
