Question about possible block casting issue.
questtuner82 replied to carguygibby's topic in Virtual Mechanic
Maybe he just doesnt have the correct info for these motors or has never done any machining to one of these. There are a few shops by me that dont have all the proper info for the specs of the g54 nor have they ever machined any of them. That could be one of his issues and hes just giving u the run around -
My ignition coil was bad and caused this. Ran good cold abd ran good when not in boost. As soon as i started building boost it fell on its face and felt like it ran out of fuel till i let off the throttle. Got very annoying trying to figure it out bc the symptoms seemed related to fuel but everything was new and or reconditioned

questtuner82 replied to questtuner82's topic in Virtual Mechanic
I have a full 6 bolt rear that i just had 3.90 put in and having the axles rebuilt. Found and old mom and pop shop by me that can still get or has parts on hand to rebuild these. Very good family buisness and work is a+. Even went as far as painting my diff housing and axles with black epoxy paint. -

So i bought an axle from autozone which is listed as a non i/c car and it matches mine perfect. Not sure if they have them listed wrong or what but it works fine and is 67$ with a 20$ core charge. Duralast #7920 reman -

I had this issue with mine with some mods and it ended up being too much boost for the mass air flow sensor to be able to read correctly

Do you have a real boost gauge? Also any mods like boost controller anything

Car has been running great now it backfires in boost
questtuner82 replied to questtuner82's topic in Virtual Mechanic
Yes too much boost. Remember its still tbi and only using maft on it. With maft 18 psi of boost is about all u can get before the mass air flow goes out of range -

My exhaust blew apart bc it was backfiring from too much boost. It has no cats and 2.5" d/p and 2.5" exhaust with borla 12" resonator and borla cannon muffler with 5" outlet -

Still have fuelly cold start issue but i can deal with that. Only runs fuelly for the first few minutes from a cold start. Ive tried adjusting the maft but when its warm it runs fine like it is. Any adjustment makes it run crappy when its warm. It also has 40lbs of fuel pressure at idle with adjustable regulator. Should i drop the fuel pressure down a bit? Would that help anything? -

So i think i got my issue solved. After i fixed the exhaust from it blowing apart. It seems that my boost gauge i installed a while ago was off like 5-8psi. Got it used and looked nice but wasnt correct. When the gauge was reading 13-15 psi i was above 20psi and that was the issue. Im now running a comfortable 16-18 psi boost and no issues -

I know i have an exhaust leak now. When the car backfired it blew the flex section apart on the dp so it is a nasty exhaust leak. But it started b4 the exhaust leak happened. The flex blowing apart happened bc of the backfiring and before that the exhaust was brand new 2.5" stainless with borla resonator and borla cannon muffler
