  1. I'm really just trying to use this engine as a drop in and go. Just so I can get it moving around while I get the other engine rebuilt. I don't plan on going crazy with this one. It's just to get the car moving
  2. Well the 4g63 plans didn't go though. But I did find a 2.6 from a 88 montero for $250. If I get this engine will it be as simple as swapping the FI and turbo setup and dropping it in? Or is there more involved?
  3. Well I don't have the time for this project. I really wish I did but what are you gonna do? Anyway it's a 87 quest TSI. 136,000 miles, black exterior, 5 speed. It's a little rough but is mostly complete and has a lot of potential. This is a local sale as the car is not running. The bottom end needs to be rebuilt. Body is in good shape. A couple dings here and there but nothing major. Could use new paint too. The car is located in garner, nc and will have to be towed. I really wish I could do something with this but I've got to let it go. If you've got questions just PM me. Ill put some pics up later. The ones on my phone are too big to upload.
  4. Ok. So I tried to post this in another section but it wouldn't let me. I have an opportunity to get a 4g63t from a 95 talon TSI. I was wondering if this swap could be done. It's a 2g and I didn't know if it would be easier just to get a 1g. I know I'll need a new tranny or adapter and motor mounts and all that but I just wanted to know what the biggest problem would be doing a 2g engine versus a 1g
  5. So I took the oil pan off and the bearing cap was sitting on the oil pan. Along with the two nuts that hold it on the rod. Doesn't look like anything got damaged but I won't know for sure till I pull the engine. I thought it was weird but I'm glad because it doesn't look like anything detrimental. The other thing that bothers me is the balance chain that's all bunched up in the timing cover.
  6. Ok. Gonna get my fingers dirty in the next day or two. If my fears are true and it is a broken rod should I buy a new stock replacement rod or get one from the junkyard? There's a couple cars with the 2.6 carb'd I could get rods out of. But I only need one for the time being so I don't know which route would be better. A new one or a used one( if its in good condition)
  7. Ok thanks. I check that out and do some research
  8. Got Another quick question. I plan on rebuilding the engine sometime soon and upgrading some parts. Could I use the MPI system from an 89 on my 87? If so how hard would it it be? Or would it be easier to just use the stock 2 injector setup and buy some bigger injectors and Maybe a bigger fuel pump?
  9. Well I pulled the plugs and tried to turn it. I can see the #1 cylinder is not moving when I'm spinning the crank. the engine turns freely until it binds up which is probably the rod hitting the cylinder. I'm pretty sure it's a broken rod or wrist pin. Gonna be a few days before I can start tearing it down but ill send some updates when I know for sure
  10. I rotated it by the crank bolt. Ill check the marks to see where they are at now. I was also wondering if it was an interference engine. I have a 04 GLI that did the same thing. That's why I was thinking maybe a timing issue. So I'll check the marks and see where they are and go from there
  11. It feels more like its binding up but ill take the plugs out and try that. I'm hoping its something simple. I planned on rebuilding the engine but I wanted to get it running first
  12. Hey guys. Just joined the forum as I bought my first quest a few days ago. I've always loved them and now I finally have one! Anyway I got a problem I was hoping I could get some help with. Also sorry if I'm not posting in the right section. Just tell me where I need to go. So I pick up an 87 quest for $1000. All original with 136,000 miles. It's gonna need some work but for the price I couldn't pass it up. I know it needs new injectors so I pick them up yesterday. The car was sitting for a couple years so I wanted to make sure the engine wasn't locked up before I started throwing money at it. I put a wrench on the crankshaft to make sure the engine spins freely. I can go about a full rotation one way and it Binds up. Then I spin it the opposite way and it does the same thing. I don't want to force it and cause any more problems. I was thinking a possible timing issue. Anyone one have any ideas what's causing it to bind up? Gonna take the plugs out and see if I can tell if the pistons are coming all the way up.
