  1. They aren't the right offset, I don't think.......see that big-a** spacer he is running? It looks like a 25mm spacer to me, so figure 25mm off normal.
  2. FYI...... Putting skinny tires on rims that are wider than the suggested rim width isn't really a "look". It's done for a reason. If you stretch the sidewall out as much as possible, you have no sidewall that needs to roll over, I.E. RAZOR sharp turn-in. Drifters like this for a number of reasons... On a street car, with real-world pot holes and curbs....I wouldn't do it, it's dangerous, tire widths have reccomended rim widths for a reason.
  3. Sorry, sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread. Conquest351: I'm pretty sure it was you who was building a GRM $2004 challenge car, I checked the entry list and didn't see a conquest/starion on it, what happened? are you guys still doing it or what? I entered and am going to be running something that's 4G63 powered, was hoping to see an entrant or two with starquests.
  4. Yeah, you're right. That height was suitable for that car, but even on a stock starquest you kinda rub. I have had the brackets out of a quest before, but it was a while ago. If I remember right, you could probably do the same thing, except mount the tubing even with, or below the factory mounting portion/ bolt hole. I'm not positive though, I've got a spare sparco sprint lying around, maybe I'll monkey with putting it in the Quest sometime this week and seeing if I can make the stock brackets work.
  5. ah, THANKS!!! ;D I honestly don't know how I missed that while I was searching.
  6. here it is again. http://techno7.hp.infoseek.co.jp/image7/Dscn1954.jpg
  7. On my mirage, I put in sparcos in on the stock brackets, I just had to get some square steel and weld it up to make it work. Here's some pics: http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/data/504/1350m_no_int_3.JPG http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/data/504/1350mirage_no_interior.JPG
  8. In the DSM world there is a clear upgrade sequence that is found at just bout every vendor/forum, etc.. You ought to put together a clear, logical upgrade sequence for the starquest for the folks that aren't sure what to do and put a link to it so it is easy to find (For all I know you already have this on the site someplace and I missed it, boy will my face be red). Anyhow, I would imagine it going somthing like this: 1) start with a good car, good compression, blah blah 2) free mods..1G mas, hacking, holes in airbox, or whatever, etc 3) K&N 4) catback 5) hi-flo cat, or test pipe 6) down pipe 7) boost gauge/ AF meter 8) fuel pump 9) MBC/more boost well, you get the idea. You could get fancy with it and consider that a "stage 1" for cars that could just keep stock internals, stock turbo, basically just recounting the sequence that will free up the most HP with the least amount of money spent. Possibly you could do 3 stages based on desired HP, but it likely wouldn't be practical because stage 3 would probably end up looking like: 1) Forged internals, build head 2) MPI/stand alone ....you see where I'm going. thanks for listening .
  9. Did anyone take pics of their import car parts plus gauges with white face/ blue backlighting? I never saw the outcome, but I think the GB for these was like a year ago? -Thanks
  10. well, forget that for states that require front liscence plates :-[ .
  11. Tuned Sequential Injection?
  12. ooh, nah, I'm up in N. VA, thats a little too far. I'm curious to know about this "red rocket" though. What is the deal with the lexan, does somone make a window kit for starquests? or are you just buying flat sheet lexan and cutting it yourself? I'll take care of the mirage, then I'll start by taking care of the rust spots on the quest and I'll go from there.
  13. Update: Well. I wish I had better news. Anyhow, I had my 89 mirage all finished up finally. I went to the track, 17 psi, 16G, FMIC, my new DSM/GM MAF translator installed, ran down the strip 3 times, only a best of 14.3 :'( wayyyy below where I ought to be (low 13-mid 12). I logged all my runs with the TMO datalogger, had a look at all my logs, all the O2 readings were fine, all the fuel trims were fine, Knock sum never more than 1, 21-22* timing advance holding all the way through the gears. I could find nothing wrong. I had no boost leaks, and all the 60 ft times and the driving was decent. So, I got back to basics and did a compression test, well it turned out that I was at 140, 145, 100, 120 (factory spec is 165) So, now I know what is holding me back, so I have to rebuild it and do it in the next month in time for the DSM shootout on july 20th (I gotta make it this year or i'll kill myself). Anyhow, so that will come before I try and do anything with this gullwing project. Hopefully, I get the motor done quickly and still have enough time this summer to work on the gullwing quest. Now, today I finally got a candidate. I just baught a gold 87' Quest TSI today for $600. Runs great, 144k, EVERYTHING electronic on the car works (even the antenna, ac, str whl radio controls), Intereior is solid other than the trashed drivers seat and old floor mats. The car just has a sticking caliper, the tilt steering knob keeps popping out while you're driving (scared the heck outta me the 1st time it happened, even though the seller was real honest and told me about it, I still was surprised.) and he said the headlights won't go down (I took care of it already, just took the wiggle switch trick). The thing is, this car is so damn nice, I don't know I I should use it, If I somehow fail at this gullwing project, I will have hated to have screwed up such a nice one. On the other hand, if the project turns out well, than I'll have a really nice car.....thats a gullwing . opinions... ???
  14. I'm planning a gullwing conversion on a starion, think I have most of it planned out and engineering figured out, It won't be like the few produced in japan, as they appeared to have compromised structural integrity too much, where I believe my method would actually strengthen the car and increase overall rigidity. My design may also turn out hideously, so I just need another starquest that doesn't cost more than $800 that I wont be concerned about messing up if s*** goes awry, so I think I have found an ESI-R locally that needs an ECU, its in a junk yard, it looks like a good candidate. This will be more of a summer project that I'm going to take my time with, but if I get real excited about it, I'm going to be pulling all-nighters to work on it and it will get done in 3 weeks...but we'll see. What I DONT want to happen is that I start the project and never finish (although I have always finished every project I have started). So guys, just check in with me and keep giving me crap if I don't make progress. oh, I figure I ought to ask if anyone else on the board has already done the gullwing conversion? because it would make it easier for me ;D. -later  Â
