  1. read through this and agreed with 87quest. i had the same problem. had to clean the fuel system 4 times. do not forget the little screens just before the fuel injectors. autozone has a throttle body rebuild kit with new soft parts(o-rings-gaskets). get new filter under hood. there's a picture of how i installed a filter before the pump in my gallery. i got a clear one Fram G3. cut hose and use screw clamps, you can see if its flowing gas. there's a fuel starvation tube in the tank that can get clogged too. cars hate to sit. if you have a fuel air gage it's much easier to trouble shoot these cars. i didn't have one at first. the fuel system on this car kicked my tail. sometimes it ran then it didn't, random like. good hunting, C300

oh, my injectors were bad also. dripping fuel, bad pattern. fuel pressure gage under hood to see if injectors are leaking. should hold pressure for weeks.

  2. hooking up a wide band, then a full stereo system. no radio when i go the car. I have plenty of installation experiance. just trying to figure out the best place to get switched power. not sure why, but the only switched power i found in the radio wires is 10v. of course the others are 12v. this is in accessory position. stays at 10v with car running. when i wired the wide band to the 10v it popped the tail n dash lights. also didn't want to run the wide band off the radio circuit. anyone have suggestions ? thanks, C300
  3. I've been looking at speakers. on crutchfield they have the following, so if you could find out what model they are it could be a good deal. I haven't tried the bigger size or this brand speaker yet. would like to know if the larger speakers install with out butchering the door panel, C300

    Diamond Audio D663A

6-1/2" 2-way convertible speaker system with aluminum tweeters, Your price $349.99

  4. I had a simular problem. gave it part throttle or a load on the engine and it would buck or loose power. ran great till then. had a fuel restriction. dirt n rust in the tank, filters clogged. have a pix of the clear fuel filter installed before the walbro 255 in my gallery. changed all filters, some 3-4 times. car sat long time, crap in lines. good luck, C300
  5. i've always run 10W40 in my domestic cars. still do. that said, I read an article from engine manufactures back in the '80's that said they stopped using it, and not to use it, there were better oils offering better performance. some co.'s temporaraly stopped making it. for what it's worth...

the starions first owner ran Moble 1 10W30 since break in. engine has been in 3 cars now, 100k+? changed the v/cover gasket monday cause it leaked. top end looks new. ran the car in canada 7y and arizona bout the same. same readings on gage.

STARFIGHTERPILOT, -i agree with your explanation of oils, you know your stuff. the teacher in my A&P (airplane maintenence) school asked me what the "W" stood for. i said "WEIGHT... WRONG ! It's indeed "WEATHER". I had to do a 1500 word paper on the subject ! hard lesson learned :-) it's a subject i followed since and not well understood by the majority. C300

  6. has anyone rebuilt these power steering pumps ? are kits avalible ?

I haven't gotten around to dissecting it yet. lots of power steering fluid in this one when i got it, first time i had one go bad. always used Dextron 2 so never had issues. got loud low growl, thought it was a ballance shaft or bearing. Did anyone notice the '86 online Manual? Group 19 for power steering has its pages all out of order ! all random like. lots of duplicate pages but no 19-30 ! the page needed...

does this have replacable bushings or bearings ? or is the shaft just a close tollarance to a hole in the housings ? thanks, C300

  7. got a red '88 that was posted "for free" in Az. on here. real clean. but completely dismanteled. roller, no drivetrain, wires in boxs. the guy said they were going to build a "race car" with a differant engine. yup... missed an LS3 for $2500 builder, so guess i have to wait till another one pops up, then i'll get serious.

was thinking of adding/modifying a stock rearend with a 8 3/4" or 9" center. then use some shafts that will take the power. stock mounts, maybe adj. camber mounts. easy to ship without center section. maybe the hubs n brakes too. not to much more work than our modding for new springs. anyone thought this out yet ?

not putting 30-40k into a starion when a '99 vette is 10-15k, but do want to beef it up before just breaking stuff.

i like that splitter too. kinda stiffens it all up at the same time, C300

  8. I found that you need to go where the work is. lots of people never move, thus take what there givin. I had to move several times to move up in my field. some jobs i had moved over seas. at one time all the stuff the US military bought HAD to be made in the US. i'm working my tail off and just started going back to school. If i got layed off again, i'd be going back to school so fast it would make your head spin. all the jobs out there are Engineering, tech jobs, Ect. they can bounce between them. the way i see it, no degree=no work. lots of people would look at me and say i'm doing great, why go back to school ? well, no job is secure today. I'm doing good with a 2y degree, but could be doing better with a 4y degree. same-better pay w/less hours. limited shift work, Ect.

Not trying to preach, but for me, looking back to the last time the job dried up, i should have gone to school day N night till i was about to forclose on my house. then sold it to finnish going to school. instead, i moved to get work, and had twice the bills, lol. C300

  9. read 10 years ago that the population in europe will decline over 30% by 2050. 50% of the work force in Italy will be lost. Lots of DINKS, Duel Income No KidS... stated that kids cost too much, and people are going out and traveling, enjoying life more. so no time for kids. In the USA, it seems that the lower the income, the more kids. so that sector is keeping the population up in the US. so, got time on your hands, too broke to go out, make babies !
  10. up here in the northwest there just doesn't seen to be many star/quests. guess it's the weather... natallica, saw your post, thats why i thought of posting this. f%@& hilarious. Robert, saw your post too, if i remembered, i would have told him "one MILLION dollars" also.

My first Starion, a '87 Palmero w/black leather, i drove dayly from feb. 1988 till 1997. the car had 3 scratchs on it, it was mint. every time i washed it i was mobbed by people in the parking lots. a guy i worked with in Arizona, a brother with a nice N clean BMW, asked me how i kept the car so detailed and in such good condition. got t-boned 20 minutes later by a contractor on a cell phone. shifted the nose 8 inches. done :-( Still think that a clean Palmero (gray) Starion with black trim N pinstripes, bumpers, grill and lip of spoiler is the best looking color combo. the paint changed shades of color with all the angles of the body. was sweet. Ahh well, C300

  11. Had to laff, parts store guy asked if he could take pix of my starion after he wanted to buy it ! How much, come on, how much ! sell it to me ! Said his cousin had 3 of them on Forza Motorsport 4. They were awesome ! He wanted to buy mine before his cousin did ? told him about the one in oregon for sale. then i went back cause they don't carry the wiper blades refills for the S/Q. group of young guys hanging out there had a million questions. guess they're getting popular again cause of the game. anyone have the same experiences, C300
  12. HaHa Colin, red interior ! got 1-2 full red interiors in a trailer in Az. that i removed. threw out more(before i found these sites) ! they're horrible ! same color in my Monti-SS aerocoupe. almost turned it down cause of the interior color, but it was too good a deal ;-)

the gumball rally car he drove was a black 82-83 digital dash car. guess it impressed him !

  13. i ment i'd "buy" into your building a run of a decent product ! lol i know what it takes. this way i can build another set of headers for my other project, unless your interested !(it's a fit n tack job, just kidding). 67 barracuda with(tricky part) 440with raised port heads and power steering. with no cutting. I'm loosing 110hp with tri-y and 1 1/4" primary stuff. Thanks for thinking of the Starion and Conquest community, C300
