  1. Meh the car has more problems then just starting in the rain or even a leaky injector. Had a compression test done and it was at around 20 on 2 cylinders. Even with a bit of oil on top of the pistons it was still way low. Either way I'm selling to a friend as a parts car. I dont have enough money to spend on a new motor rebuild. I just barely spent 800 for the bottom end rebuild on my Talon (not including the parts). So spending another 800-1000 on a car I paid 700 for doesn't seem practical to me. I could use that 1000 and buy another car instead. It was a fun car I'll probably pick up another one down the road. Probably from someone on here because the cleanest ones are on this site and I'd like one as a collector's piece. I didn't want to junk it because I'd rather see the parts from it help get another Starquest on the road. I also dont see much point in keeping one for a full-blown project when the body is in such horrible shape. It'll be a good parts car.
  2. Yes and it started up multiple times on the dry days that I drove it. But after every rain storm it wont start. I'm not doubting in any way that it has a leaky injector or that the throttle body is in definite need of a rebuild just for how old it is and how it drives. I can tell it's running rich. But rain doesn't make an injector leak more lol :character0292: Something must be getting wet. Its happened 3 times now and every time it's after a rain storm.
  3. Well its definitely something getting wet. Rained again while I was driving. Turned the car off and went inside the store. Came out and bam sure enough wouldn't start. Could the coil be possibly letting in moisture? Maybe just a wire somewhere?
  4. I tried unplugging the injectors and cranking it over for about 20-30 seconds to try and clear out the flooded cylinders. Still no go....I'm not sure if its getting spark really. Nobody around to crank it while I press a wire against metal.... Earlier BrazilBoy said he got a Jacobs Electronics ignition coil (which I guess is now Accel) I was gonna pick one up just wondering if the coils go bad often on these cars. It was just one more thing I wanted to try before taking the throttle body apart to take to a shop and have them remove the damaged bolt and clean the injectors.
  5. Well......new cap and nothing..... Interestingly I pressed on an injector and some fuel came out of the top of it. Guess it is a leaky injector for sure then right?
  6. I think I found the problem. Remembering back last week that night that it sat at my work it rained. Then wouldn't start the next morning when I got off. No yesterday afternoon it rained before I had to go to work. Then wouldn't start again after the rain storm. So..................when I thought distributor before I may have been right. The humidity/moisture getting inside of it somehow throught a crack or bad seal perhaps...... I'll replace it and see what happens I guess.
  7. Woops my bad not the FPR the injector holder part 'A' on the diagram
  8. Took the plugs out. Wiped them off a bit. But before I installed them I cranked it over. Did notice any fuel spraying though.....put it all back together. Got it started took and it for a spirited drive after I let it idle for about 5-7 mins. Once I got back I shut it off to see if it wouldn't start again. It started. Drove it again. Came back. Turned it off. Tried it again for a third time.....and started. Its weird. But for another question do they still sell the screws that hold the FPR on individually? One of mines stripped...
  9. It's definitely fuel thats wetting the plugs. Seems to be getting A LOT of fuel. I'm also thinking its a leaky injector due to my rough idle (sounds like its on 3 cylinders) and poor throttle response. Running a bit rich maybe? I think so. Is there a way to disable the fuel pump (ie relay/fuse) on these cars thats pretty accessible? I think I may need to try and get the fuel inside the cylinders out.
  10. Tried another set of plugs and wires. Still nothing. Wont start at all. Tried to idle for a second then died. Plugs still all wet. :hangman: Whats the easiest way to diagnos this? CTS = Coolant Temp Sensor?
  11. How much do those go for or do you have a link to where they can be purchase from?
  12. This is the 2nd time I've ran into a flooding issue. However it may not be flooding. Once the car sits a while it becomes difficult to start. Much like when it flooded this last winter. Pulled the plugs and 1-3 were wet. Put in some new ones and she atarted right up. Drove it again let it sit for a while then wouldn't start. :confused0024: Pulled the plugs again. They weren't really wet but they werent very pretty either. I tried starting it with the accelerator pressed all the way down. Nothing. Put it in first and as I was cranking it I lifted the clutch pedal and let it stall. Turned the key again and it started up. Hmmmm I think that instead of flooding I may be getting insufficient spark. The plugs and wires are new. So next would be the distributor cap? Correct? Thanks in advance!
  13. I just got my one and only 85 Flatty (see sig) Anybody know what the trim level on mine would be? ie TSi ESi etc.... and whats the factory name for its color? Sarajevo White? Polar White? Again not sure...lol Its been a pretty good daily for me *knocks on wood* better than my Talon was but nowhere near as fun to drive lol I saw an orange flatty in some guys driveway not foar from me. I've never seen it move.....I wonder if they would sell it for cheap (I dont think it runs) and I could do a 4G swap on it while keeping my white one for a cheap daily.....hmmmm opportunity? Maybe!
  14. Ya they are by far my favorite of the DSM body styles. They are the rarest too. There were less than 1500 Talons made in 97 and 98. Thats just Talons in general. The Turbo All Wheel Drive models were even more rare...
  15. This is my 97 TSi AWD.....this car is identical to the 98 that my dad used to own. Currently its torn apart undergoing some mods.....the motor was just barely dropped off to a local machine shop. Going to run an FP3065 in the future but I want to get it running ASAP so 14B on 9:1 CR and 272s here we come! It just might spool at idle....lol http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/51/l_f45cda963c39a659869d70dfcee329a5.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/68/l_f8a8a3e0890867f9dde0e220efb1d536.jpg Current mods.....but the build is far from over! 16. As soon as I'm done with the build and payments on my DSM I know I'll be looking for a IX MR.....saw one go for $23K and only had 25K on the clock! I've seen 03s go for that much with more mileage....
  17. I just can't stand the hatchback look that Subie went with......looks like a Ford Focus ZX3 on steroids....buff....but still ugly... The Evo X isn't exactly a 'looker' either but I think I like it's style more.... Have you test drove a X yet?
  18. Alright I was unsure if the oil pressure had any relation to it. If 7psi is the proper boost then I don't have to worry about the turbo. From my experience with my 97 Talon it seems like a pre-turbo exhaust leak. Plugs are still good, I will replace the fuel filter and feedline, and go through the exhaust system. Thanks again for the heads up everyone! I'll replace all the vac lines too especially as I want to do a 14G/intercooler conversion to my flatty.
  19. So my car has been acting a bit sluggish. It doesn't seem to have any umph anymore. The idle is also very lopey. Almost like a sputter. The car has only ever gone up to about 5-7psi on the stock boost gauge. Not sure how accurate that is but whats the correct psi the gauge should be reading on an 85.5? Also at idle my oil pressure drops really low. It stays above the bottom hash mark though. Checked the oil and it was fine. Its not leaking any oil. It has some blow by though. When I raise the rpms the oil pressure normalizes. Only at idle will it drop pretty low. Also under boost at freeway speeds the car seems to fuel cut. And starting in first gear from idle the exhaust note is kind throaty like when you unbolt the exhaust on a turbo car. But only momentarily. Few possibilities come to mind: 1. Pre-turbo exhaust leak? (but that wouldn't explain the oil pressure drop) 2. Turbo on its last legs? (doesn't smoke but has some shaft play but would it affect oil pressure?) 3. Bad piston rings? 4. Head Gasket going bad? (Oil is fine though, no coolant in it) 5. Fuel related perhaps? (Again that shouldn't be killing my oil pressure) 6. Boost/Vacuum leak? (But why the falling oil pressure?) Thanks in advance!
  20. Started up just a few minutes ago :party0049: good call on the plugs Tim thanks again my man!
  21. Ya NGKs are all I ever put in my mitsus. I pulled the #3 plug today and it had wet fuel all over it. So you think another set of plugs and it should work? #4 was dry but I didn't check the others (had to hurry for work) my next try would be a new distributor cap but the contacts in mine look good still. #4 is still probably getting spark hence the bucking the engine does.
  22. That's what I thought at first too but I changed the plugs and the wires just this last week...brand new NGKs....ran fine then like I said 1 uber cold night and bam Friday the 13th and my car won't start lol But today I'm gonna see if NAPA has recharged my battery, I dropped it off to them last night before I went to work. If it won't take a charge at all I'll toss in a fresh battery like Kreal said.
  23. Last wednesday I drove my car to the gas station and filled it up after work wednesday night then went home. I had nothing to do on thursday so i didn't drive anywhere. Friday morning I try and start the car and it just cranks over sometimes the motor "bucks" like it wants to start. It has brand new NGK BPR6ES plugs and new plug wires so I'm doubting spark is an issue. I smell fuel when t cranks. So good there I assume. Now I tried to jump the battery as thursday night was exceptionally cold here in UT. So I thought maybe the cold weather affected it somehow. Tried the jump. Still just cranks. However I took the battery to get tested and the results were inconclusive because the battery wasn't fully charged. But my question is shouldn't the car have started even with a dead battery when it was hooked up to the other cars battery during the jump? Then died once the jumper cables were removed? Or could the battery be so bad that there's no way it can take a charge anymore? All the lights/electronics still function so there's no way it's "that" dead is there? Oil and coolant are both clean as well. Only odd thing that happened with the car was the extreme cold on thursday night. Other than that it ran fine before. I'm going to get the battery recharged or replaced today but if that doesn't fix it what else could it be? I'm completely stumped on this one. Thanks in advance
  24. Well like I guessed it was my water pump (even though I hoped it wasn't) finally seized on me one day. Simple fix though however the power steering pump pulley had some play in it and was ruining that belt. Sadly I saw this after I had installed the water pump and had to get to work so I cut the belt off. Didn't want to risk it snapping and killing the other belts. I'm a ghetto DSM guy what can I say?
