  1. Thanks guys. Renegotiating with the seller now. He told me it had been sitting for 2 years.. then I noticed the "next oil service" sticker said 2001.. and the inspection expired in 2001. Now, he says it's been sitting since '03. My offer has dropped, because who knows what else is being omitted or fabricated..
  2. So the car I was / possibly still am purchasing.. has been sitting for SEVEN years. That's right, in one spot since 2001. The body looks decent, the interior is quite decent.. so that's the only reason I'm still pontificating this. New clutch in 50k miles ago.. the car started cranking but not actually starting up.. so he started to replace the timing chain and guides.. then just bought a new car. The rotors are completely rusted over. Aside from that, not really any rust. The car has not been touched since 2001, the valve cover and chains and stuff have been off ever since. Am I going to be able to get this thing running again without a new motor? If so, where should I start? At this point, all I know is that the car will roll when pushed (by three people haha), and that with a new battery the interior will light up and the electronics will all operate. It's a white 88 starion with 153k miles, tan/black interior, sunroof, decent setup or I wouldn't even bother.
  3. The band is called Flobots. We hooked up a new battery and everything to roll down the driver's window.. but we really just ran out of time for trying. I'm going back with less of a time limit in the morning with the bigger trailer.
  4. It actually was GOING to fit aside from a clearance issue. I'm going to continue my adventures in my thread in the random BS forum.. long story short, I got another trailer. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_v2Ehoj_8v0 Made a video of the epic failure. :[
  5. So if the car has been sitting for 7 years.. still worth the $500? I found an even better solution. Nice trailer, eh? http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l211/protegechris/PIC-0302.jpg
  6. Yeah. I'm going to go back later or on my next off day and try again. Biggest issue was the car was sitting on flats thanks to dry rot. I don't think it had been moved since 2001.. that's when the inspection sticker was dated and the next oil change was scheduled for. I had been told it had sat for 2 years, not 7.. but oh well. Rotors are rusted over but the car still rolled (eventually). The person who owned the truck I was using had to be at work soon so it'll have to be another day I made a short little video walking around it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v2Ehoj_8v0
  7. OK, so the car is a white starion with a sunroof, motor, and BLACK/TAN combo interior. No cracks in the dash or warping at all. Good find..... but it won't go onto my trailer because of the angle of my ramps... another try another day...
  8. Thanks for the information! Looks like it might actually make it! Pictures to come, for sure!
  9. Do you possibly know if that 68.3 inches is at the very widest point of the body or at the front or rear end? It's going to be a hell of a squeeze.
  10. I am supposed to tow my Star home tomorrow morning. The trailer I have is 6 feet wide, that's a mere 72 inches. I already know it's going to be a tight fit and require some attention to loading.. but is 72" even wide enough to hold the ESI-R starion? There's a wider trailer on the left, but it's older and lacks ramps.. aside from not being legal on the road. xD
  11. Picking it up tomorrow morning assuming he's available then! Gate was closed so I couldn't get any shots of the front, but it's in as good shape as the rest of it.
  12. This wouldn't really qualify as a meet, but I'm buying my first Starion and could use some help towing the thing and finding a truck. Will gladly reimburse. PM or post.
  13. Well, I have a trailer to haul it on, but no truck. My van has no hitch on it. This just plain sucks. Why are all my friends car driving pansies? xD
  14. Yeah, the interior is tan. No cracks in the dash or anything.. just the driver's seat is chewed up, but that's to be expected. The owner put up a sun screen once he realized he wasn't going to have time to work on it for a while. I'm going to focus on getting it into solid shape mechanically before I worry about the aesthetics. I work two jobs, but money isn't just pouring into my wallet yet It's an ESI-R, by the way.
  15. Alright.. well, I'm going to pull the trigger on this tomorrow. The rear left area where it's dark is actually where it was hit and it's rusty around the edges.. so I'll have to fab something up for that.. the rear left tail light is busted (from the same incident). I just can't beat the price on this, especially when he's already bought new filters, gaskets, and the chain set and is including it. I found the service manual, which helps immensely, and assuming I can find a trailer tonight, I'm going to try and pick it up tomorrow. I promise to post lots of pictures and videos in the process of getting this beast back on the road! As far as stuff I need to buy.. he's got most of it. Of course, I'll need to buy new tires, fabricate something for the area on the back, new tail light, possible ECU.. but for $500, it's still pretty decent as far as a car goes.
