  1. Problem seems to be resolved. I took the alternator to a rebuild shop in Kent, Wa. called "the Rebuilder" to have the Schucks lifetime alt checked. They found that the stator was shorted and the diodes were not replaced. I bought their rebuilt alt and installed it. It has been charging properly for 3 months with no other changes. I trust that this one will last. No more Schucks for alternators. Thanks for all the advice folks.
  2. I have an 85 ply Conquest. I have been going thru alternators like crazy. The last one lasted 1 week with about 3 local trips. The one before lasted about a month. Totally I've replaced about 10 of these. Does anyone have any ideas why my car having this problem . Are the alternators from Schucks that bad? I've tested the wires and they look ok and not shorted out. It has a new battery and everything is stock with only stock electronics. It's a real pain to replace these. It's mounted under the engine. Help[/size] 04/12 -update There are plenty things here to look into and I wanted to include more info. My battery is about 5 months old and it holds a charge off the car. I do have other electrical problems with strange things happening with the digital dash flashing and giving erroneous readings most of the time. Sometimes the wipers swipe on their own. It could be the small stock battery ground wire and I will look at changing that. I will check the fuse links. I have an expert Mitsu mechanic that used to work at a dealer telling me that the cheap discount lifetime alts are very cheap and they often don't replace all the parts and suggests to buy a Bosch. I will give results by the end of this week. PS: yes the stupid alt is under the engine. I have to jack up the car, take the engine cover off and drop the stabilizer bar. It's a real pain and at 66yo it's getting very difficult.
  3. After looking at my owner's manual It showed both wiring systems. The digital has different sensors and a system that converts the signals to digital. Looks like I would need new sensors along with a different speedometer cable system. The manual also says that if the lcd dash fails to replace it. I will have to find me a lcd digital dash that works. Thanks all for the help.
  4. Thanks for the reply. If that's the case then there should be a resolution to a failed digital dash setup. If I can fix the system I have I would be happy. What happens now is that it flashes crazy and doesn't always give me an accurate reading.
  5. Can anyone tell me if the analog dash gauges can replace the lcd digital gauge setup. Is it a matter of unplugging and plugging the analog setup? My dash flashes and gives false readings constantly. Does anyone have an analog dash to get rid of?
