Major Thumbs up on the engine swap. It's easy for critics to talk, it's all they have. You have a bad machine now and I'm jealous. I'm going to build one myself. I'd like to see some more videos of your ride.

do you have to replace the struts? I remember being able to just replace the cartridges inside. Is that a viable option?

lowering springs good or bad?

I concur with the Eibach statements, however; the rear suspension does not lend itself well to lowering. you will be eating up the inside tread of the rear tires due to the increase in camber. -
