clutch chatters and vibrates

Well, I just went out to look at my old flywheel and saw that there is rust starting to form on the side towards the engine. Is there any specific way to clean it up so that I dont ruin the flywheel?? Also, I found that one of the dowels on my fidanza flywheel was placed in the wrong spot. Instead of it being in one of the wholes for centering the clutch, it was one hole over were there is an opening, would this affect the clutch that much? It doesnt appear to hit anything, it is just kinda there being pointless. Also, how do you go about removing a dowel so I can place it in the correct position? -

I did not check the run out on the flywheel, I didn't realize that it may not of seated. I did not heat the flywheel up either. Im going to put on the flywheel and try to test it with the wire and check the gap. Thanks for the ideas and help -
clutch chatters and vibrates
scottreallyknows replied to scottreallyknows's topic in Virtual Mechanic
The flywheel bolts were all tight and had loctite on them. The noise only happens when I release the clutch pedal at all speeds and only when I release the pedal, the car does not make any noise or vibrations when I am just driving around in gear. The speed or the rpm of the vehicle does not matter, just everytime I go to release the clutch pedal. So basically when the clutch is trying to engage onto the flywheel it makes these noises and vibrations and only does it for a brief second or two. They are pretty loud noises and vibrations are felt through the floor of the car, and they are not little vibrations either. So if you were in my position, would you just throw the stock flywheel and clutch back on? -

Mines an ebay special too. It is the sprung 6 puc disc. Probably the same as yours. Well maybe Ill through it back in there and fix my rear end mount and go from there. It makes sense a lot of sense that if the rear end mount is broken, that it will then transfer a lot more noise and vibration throughout the car. I did notice though that the stage 3 clutch did grab quite nicely. -

Haha... i would call this an epic failed moment! So basically this is probably caused by my rear end mount being broken? So I pulled my trans and everything for nothing. Wow, I figured that it must of been something a lot worse because i mean the car vibrated crazy and made some awful noises, I just assumed, (u should never assume), that it must of been something wrong with the flywheel or clutch. How bad or how much chatter do you get with a stage 3 clutch and fidanza flywheel, I plan on driving this pretty much daily during the summer months and would it kind of get annoying after awhile? Just curious, kind of thinking of putting the stock clutch back on with the fidanza flywheel? Whats your thoughts? -

It is a 6 puck disc. I am almost positive one of my rear end mounts is broken, but I am pretty positive that the noise from that is different than the noise it is starting to make now. The little clunk would happen before I put this set up in. Would the new flywheel and clutch make it change that much more? Thanks for the website, I will have to read over it and see what I can find out tomorrow. I am pretty positive that the disc was installed the right way. I am almost about to try and throw in my old clutch and flywheel to see if the noise goes away or not. -

No, it does it every gear and right when i release the clutch pedal. -
So I have a fairly well built conquest and just recently installed a stage 3 clutch and a fidanza flywheel. I only have about 20 miles on the setup and everytime i release the clutch pedal, the car vibrates greatly and makes a lot of noise. I have heard that these setups will cause a little chatter, but I am guessing that this is a little more than "a little". I just pulled the trans and took off the clutch and flywheel and there does not seem to be anything obviously wrong. I was wondering if I should just throw the stock flywheel and clutch back on, they have about 70,xxx miles on them, just to see if it was either the stage 3 clutch or flywheel causing the problem? thanks for your help Scott
