troyce69
Just wondering if this a problem. Meaning, can these cracks exists without any leakage ? I recently blew a head gasket and noticed these cracks between valves in the 3 & 4 cylinders. Anyone have any experience with this. Tanks in advance. shift1313
ive heard you can get them welded then the combustion chamber and the valve seats reground but ive never seen a cracked head that didnt leak coolant once warm. You sure your head gasket was gone?
troyce69
Yes. Gasket definatly blown. Is it worth the money to have the cracks repaired or just replace the head ?
shift1313
typically they crack from overheating, make sure whatever caused the car to over heat is remedied first. Id say its not worth it to have it fixed because who knows how thick the casting is between the combustion chamber and coolant port. Ive seen cut aways before and they differ between different cylinders. If the welder doesnt know how thick it his he doesnt know how much heat to pump into it. I would go with a reman or new casting for $175-$250 or find a good used head for less than that.
