Maxzillian
I just picked up some cloth '88 seats from another member for my '87, but I've ran into a snag. It seems that the older seat hardware doesn't port over to the newer seats. Are all '88 seats this way or is it something that only the cloth seats have? Kreal
All years fit all other years and styles of seats. Make sure you have the tracks aligned right on the seats before you bolt them down, that could be it. I've put 83 seats, 86 seats, 88 seats, 89 seats, all cloth, leather, velour, etc ..in any years. ALL FIT. Kreal
Maxzillian
Uh, this won't fit and I know that for a fact. While the holes in the bottom of my '87 seats are parallel with each other, the '88 cloth seat holes are closer together at the back. The seat buckle also sits further back in the cloth seats. Did you swap rails from one seat to the other or did each seat you swapped in come with it's own rails? I know that all years have the same bolt pattern on the floor pan, but comparing my two seats to each other shows an obvious difference. Irregardless, I'll double check. JamesR
I have an 88 and currently have 85 cloth seats in mine. I've also had 86 and 87 seats in the past which fit with no problem. There must be something wrong with your seats.
Maxzillian
Must be, I know I was installing the correct rail on the correct seat, but there was no way that it was going to line up correctly without busting out the side bolster on the bottom of the seat. Maxzillian
Well, I must just have bad luck because I checked again and confirmed that they did not fit. Here you can see the underside of the cloth '88 seat.http://members.cox.net/maxzilla4/seat1.jpg And the underside of the leather '87 seat. As you can see, the '87 seat has all four holes parallel to each other while the '88 seat has the rear holes closer together by about two inches. And they are offset.http://members.cox.net/maxzilla4/seat2.jpg So to solve this issue, I finally decided to simply weld some tabs onto the '87 rails to make them fit... worked like a charm.http://members.cox.net/maxzilla4/seat3.jpg http://members.cox.net/maxzilla4/seat4.jpg Now I just need to do the other seat. http://members.cox.net/maxzilla4/seat5.jpg
button
I dont think that booger weld meets DOT standards
Maxzillian
That booger weld is a simple quickie tack. The seat hides the two seam welds I smoked on there. 8)
