Alspos
Are the drive shafts compatible from model to model. ie if you put an 87 diff in a 83 model, can you use the original 83 drive shafts. I know the shaft diameters increased later on, and they went from 4 bolt to 5 then 6 bolt, but did the splines that go into the diff change? Any help would be appreciated. rjf
Hello - There seems to be a bit of confusion here. There is a difference between the driveshaft used on a 5 speed from that used on an auto tranny. I am not sure, but I do not belive there is much else changed on the drive shaft. The rear axle shafts used 4 bolts to connect ot the outer CV joint until 88 when they were upgraded to 6 bolts. The non-intercooled cars all had 4 lug bolts, the intercooled cars (including the 85.5 flat sider) all had 5 lug bolts for the wheels. Hope that helps -
Alspos
Sorry, by drive shafts I meant from the differential to the wheels, not tailshaft (gearbox to diff) Sorry, us Aussies talk funny. I am after information on the splines on the drive shaft, size, number, that sort of thing going in to the differential. And whether you can swap an open centre for an LSD centre.
