Tec II Or Tec III

Recommended Posts

Personally, I would not go with a TecII. Talk to SDS or Haltech, better for your buck. Never heard of a TecII going "easy" by a first time install (or second time)... Haltech/SDS setups are easier and are just as functional.

As far as windows software... I would almost recommend against bothering. I'd much rather carry a pile of s*** laptop that runs DOS and the programming utility then a BSOD (Blue screen of death) Prone Windows box... Just what I want to happen while im burning to NVRAM a new map... a BSOD ;)

But, to each their own preferance.

On the other hand, I do beleive the "trigger" wheels you are talking about are similar to a 60-2 (60x2-2, 60 teeth per rotation, 120 per engine revolution, -2 teeth for the home trigger). They can be a pain in the a**. You can get slightly (I do mean slightly) better resolution out of a trigger like this, however its a negligable difference in power (if any, depending on your state of tune vs someone elses on another standalone).

I've also heard the TECII/III's are much more difficult to grasp (not as userfriendly as the windows software availiblity would portray).

Joel pretty much hit the nail on the head.  Electromotive portrays this system (Tech III) as more userfreindly than previous modles but that`s compared to really hard to use modles.  I would check out the Haltech unit.  Talk with Bill (the shifter guy) at Fuel Injection Specialist.  I have yet to see someone running the tech on a car at the track that was a "privateer" doing there own tuning with any success.  Thats just my $.02!

I am running 5 year old TEC-II hardware, upgraded with their new WinTec chip. Bought it used from Chad; so the price was right. Paid a top notch shop (Dynamic Motorsports in Dillsburg PA) to install it for me. The owner of Dynamic had just finished putting a TEC-II in his personal Quest! Even though I told Electromotive that this was purchased as a used unit, I am just stunned by the fantastic level of technical support I have recieved from everyone at Electromotive. They stopped at nothing to help me resolve technical problems that ultimately had nothing to do with the TEC-II unit or their software.     (1  Jet-Hot coating on the downpipe interferring with the electrical ground of the O2 sensor    2) D@#% Compaq laptop that won't talk to the TEC)

Haven't had a lot of time (experience) in tuning it yet (with a borrowed Toshiba laptop); but I like it so far!

Proper fueling of an internal combustion engine is a very complex and sophisticated engineernig problem; a turbocharged application just makes it even more so. I am a techno-geek (degree in astrophysics) by nature, so this is the best toy I've gotten in a long time. If you are better on theory than on turning wrenches, this is the set-up for you!

From what I understand, the TEC-III is even more sophisticated in what it allows you to do.
