Pioneer P1400DVD

Recommended Posts

Recently I installed a Pioneer P1400DVD in my '87. I believe I paid just over $300 for it. I had to order the appropriate kit for the wiring ($10) and wait for it to arrive, but with that, the install was as easy as pie. No splicing, just plug and play. The mounting holes in the stock stereo brackets lined up perfectly with the new head unit.

The head unit is just a bit small for the stock opening but they do send a thin plastic piece that fills the gap nicely. You have to trim this piece down on the sides about an eighth inch to get the fit right, but it's simple enough. I used scissors to trim it down without bending it.

The DVD player can work while driving but it does require using a relay to trick the head unit into thinking the car is parked. It's pretty simple to rig up and the relay is less than $20.

Also installed new Alpine 6.5's in the front doors and rear pods. It was a bit of a pain to do but well worth it in the end. You can't tell any difference appearance wise but they sure sound good. Then installed a Rockford Fosgate Punch 400 and a Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" dual voice coil subwoofer. Running the wires right is the most important part of the amp install. I ran my RCA's through the console, under the carpet, and then under the seat to the amp. I ran the power and remote wires away from the RCA's and put them coming down the driver's side.

The Pioneer head unit has every sort of crossover I could ever need. Fully adjustable EQ as well of course. It may take a couple hours to figure out all the settings but once you get it setup right and figure out how everything works, it's excellent and well worth the money. The picture quality of the DVD player and touch screen is excellent as well. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to you guys.
