South Florida-- Gauging Interest: DeLorean, Starion, MK2 and 3 Supra BBQ

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My name is Mike and I'm one of the founders the DeLorean Club of Florida.

Our SoFla chapter is considering having a meet with some 80's cars, and was wondering how many StarQuests are currently in South Florida that would be interested in a BBQ in the cooler months, such as late October/Early November? If we are able to generate enough interest, we would like to put something together.

We would be looking to do something in central Broward County, in order to keep the distance as even as possible.

If interested, let me know! We'd love to do something with some unique 80's cars.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the replies!

Im honestly going to shoot for the 1st week of November, in hopes it will be SLIGHTLY cooler. My DeLorean's AC is out so during the summer, she stays parked anyway! November gives me a fighting chance of a less humid day where I can actually take it out semi comfortably. I just do not want to get too close to Thanksgiving so people who have holiday plans don't have to worry about interference.

We just put the post up on the Supra board, so i'll keep updating you all on our progress!

Look forward to meeting you all.

-Mike

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the downtime between posts, but this morning we went and checked out a few locations, and we have found a winner!

Mark your calendars for:

When? Saturday, November 6, 2010

Where? Markham Park 16001 W. State Road 84 Sunrise, FL 33326 (954) 389-2000

Time? 10:00 AM - 4:00 P.M.

Pavilion #2

Cost? We have already paid for the pavilion. The Park entry fee is $1.50 per person. We are asking for $10.00 per adult to help cover the cost of the food and drink. We encourage you all to bring your kids too, so they are free. This park has a huge bike trail, swimming pools, fishing, canoeing, a shooting range for you sport shooters, jet ski area, even a remote control airplane field! It really is a nice area for a day of relaxation, meet and greets, and old cars.

If you have any specific requests, please feel free to let me know! If you are going to be able to attend, please post below so we may get an accurate head count to go food shopping :D

I can't wait to meet you all!

- Mike

I've attached pics of the park pavilion. As you can see, we have an amazing amount of space for everyone to park. Can't wait to see you there!

Dam - I'm out. As captain of my adult kickball team, I kinda need to be there for playoffs since all the games (and post tourney partying) are on this one day =P Hopefully we get another rainout and things get pushed back a week. Bump for the rest of us.

Sorry you can't make it, mstieg!

Here is a friendly reminder about the show! It's only a few weeks away now, and we can't wait to see you Starquest'ers out there!

We are in the food planning stages now, so it's important that we get a confirmed yes or no if you and guests will be attending.

Entrance Fee:

$10/per person, kids under 12 free. Registration required so that we

can identify your car for awards, so you can vote, and to be eligible

for lunch.

Note that there is a park entrance fee, at the gate, of $1.50 /person,

ages 6 and up.

Hours:

10am – 4:30pm (you can stick around until the park closes, but

effectively the show will be over after the Awards which we estimate

will be after 4pm.

Lunch (1pm), Food & Drinks:

Your entry fee will cover lunch and drink.

We are still deciding if we want to BBQ (take time & cooks), or pizza locally.

Boards:

Two bulletin boards will be set up.

1) Technical questions White Board: List a question about your car,

maintenance on it, etc., and put your name on it. If you don’t have

anything to put on the board, review it anyway, and if you can answer

it, write your name next to it. The point here is that questions can

be answered and while using your own car a reference. I know I have

at least 1 Supra question, am sure others will have as well.

2) Advertising Pin Board: Bring and post flyers, business cars, of

your, recommended local businesses.

Raffle (3pm):

Raffle prizes are claimed from randomly and publicly selected raffle tickets.

As winning tickets are called, owner of ticket chooses the raffle item.

Extra raffle tickets will be sold, at $1 each, at the event.

Awards (after raffle):

There will be 3 trophies, one for one car from each of the three

classes of eligible cars.

Eligible classes of cars are Supra (Mk1 or Mk2), DeLorean, and

Starrion, that are driven to the show.

Please note: This is NOT a concours/trailer queen car/judged

recognition; interesting cars, mod-ed cars, heck…running cars, all

have an equal chance to win as the votes come from the participants,

so all eligible cars are encouraged to participate.

Upon registration, you will be given a paper with a number, to place

on your windshield, for voting.

Awards will be given based on most votes, only paid attendants can vote.

Paid attendants vote for 1 car from each of the eligible classes of cars.

In case of a tie, we’ll have to decide by applause.

Must have more than one car per class, to be eligible to win.

In case an award cannot be given to a marquee entrant (no votes, or

only 1 car), then that award will be given to the next number of

highest votes of any of the other eligible cars.

There will be one special award given for “Longest drive.”

Other things to do:

This event is being held at a huge public park, that you can walk,

jog, bike, fish, shoot, fly RC, rent boats, play catch, volleyball,

tennis, etc., so plan accordingly.

No problem in parking your car and exploring the park, but just be

back for lunch, voting, raffles, and awards.

So...

We are hoping you can join us. Please send us an email, PM, if are

attending (and specify if guests are coming) so we can start planning.

Did anyone attend this? I'm curious about the attendance. I wasn't able to make it down due to work

I was there early about 1pm. There was about 7 beautiful Deloreans and a couple of 80's Toyo and no Starions. The Deloreans were show quality in my opinion. there was also a Teamsters car show next door with muscle cars.
