88shp
i just purchased a new one. took off plenty of fenders, chevelle, rx7, integra, tercel, and camaros(3rd gen camaros are IMPOSSIBLE to take off without damaging it a fair amount took me a whole night and a whole day) tercel panels came off in 10 mins. was wondering how simple or hard it was so i can be prepared with correct joint tools. are there alot of hidden bolts? thanks for all the help guys, chris

mikec
Tools needed: * Plain old phillips screwdriver to remove the front grill and the side marker lights * 10mm socket wrench to undo half-a-zillion bolts. 4 along the top, many more behind the grill. * 12mm wrench to undo a bolt holding a wire bundle - this is visible from above. * one more wrench (12 or 14mm? It's been a while...) to remove bolts holding the cruise control's vacuum pump bracket. * Small pliers (not needle-nose) to squeeze the white plastic clips that hold the grill to the header panel. Squeeze them top-bottom so they slip through the header easily; otherwise they'll just shatter when you pry/pull the grill out. Dealer only pieces too. 1: Remove the side marker lights (one screw in each, then they pull forwards and out). 2: Remove the grill - one screw on each end, then those white plastic clips. 3: Remove the two 12mm bolts holding the stuff supported by the header panel. 4: Look at the backside of the panel, almost all the way to the bottom edge of the header panel, and you'll see a vac hose clipped to the header. There is a coupler on this hose so you can undo it and slip it out of the coupler. 5: Remove the 10mm bolts. Hold the panel so it doesn't flop around and scratch the paint. mike c. 88shp
thanks alot. lol^. but it seems like its gonna be pretty hard. those clips are what makes the camaro fenders impossible to remove.
89Steve
thanks alot. lol^. but it seems like its gonna be pretty hard. those clips are what makes the camaro fenders impossible to remove. Besides the grill, there are no clips involved when replacing the header panel. Once the 2 phillips screws are removed from the grill it should pop right out. It is at most a half hour job, very simple
boneTSI
ive taken one header panel off and replaced it with a new one in about 25 min, super easy, nothing to worry about.
chasm2530
I don't have a pic or diagram to show you but if you'll look at the header panel after you have the grill out you'll see the grill only blocks two of the 10mm bolts. Those are beside the inside corners of the headlight covers. Leave those two out and the next time you want to pull the header panel the grill will come off with it.
