Hey everyone, I'm Brandon! My bad in advance if I write a novel here, I tend to get carried away when it comes to cars and going fast. Anyway I've been cruising the forums here for a few months now trying to gather as much information as I could before I finally pulled the plug on my dream project. Ever since I was in high school I have wanted to own a Starion. I seriously think it is one of the best looking cars made to this day and I longed to own one but I was enveloped in my past addiction.... Mustangs! I had an S197 for years and made it into a beast of a car. I showed it, I raced it, had it in SEMA a couple times, and even drifted it. Drifting is kinda my current obsession (hence the name) I was doing it for fun for a few years before I moved away to attend college. So now I've had to step back and focus on school, of course with the occasional messing around in the rain and track days. I do plan to get back into in hopes of competing in Formula Drift one day. With these current goals of mine I new my current car had reached its potential as a drift car and I could simply not afford to run it. So to everyone's surprise I sold the car I once said I was gonna past on to my kids one day and decided what I was gonna do. I was ready to finally get serious and buy a starion but there was a problem, I have been driving American V8 cars all my life and couldn't see myself driving a 4-banger. I loved the look of the body so much but just wanted to put a gnarly motor in it. After talking with many people (mostly Convette) and looking over build forums I was confident in my goals and well, I bought a SUPER CLEAN 1988 Starion in Oklahoma for a steal (I live in Texas when i bought the car ). Then shortly after I bought the drivetrain out of a F-body Camaro in the hopes of building the ultimate drift sleeper keeping my focus on drivetrain and chassis, while ignoring the outside for now. For now this is gunna be my daily driver and also take it to local open drift days but over time I plan to really build this thing using John's (convette) car as an inspiration. Right now the surgery is underway. The new motor is currently put in along with a whole new floor, role cage, custom tunnel, and many many other things. I'm super excited about this whole project and also hope to take advantage of all y'alls advice and knowledge as I am truly a newb to this car and the LS platform. I also really wanna thank John (Convette) for all his help so far as I've probably been texting him more then a stalker ex girlfriend. So this is my build thread. This project was suppose to take 10 weeks but like anything custom that didn't happen. Its coming up on about 8 months now but its about a month away from being done so I've been racking up the pictures waiting to put a thread together. The car is currently in Texas while Im living in florida but I am moving back California where the car will live and be driven daily. This is what I got http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f223/carsmart28/IMG_1128_zpsd38e0b14.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f223/carsmart28/IMG_1131_zps88ebd931.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f223/carsmart28/IMG_1150_zpsf563fbe3.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f223/carsmart28/IMG_1157_zps90b4af79.jpg

I know I don't post here very often, I'm not really a forum person. But my car is no stranger, I'd presume. I didn't feel this was worthy of "Meeting Planning" because of the nature of the post. At Any Rate . . .I'll try to be as concise as possible. The best way to do that is numbered bullets. 1. Posting this because I'd like to network outward and meet people in the hopes of building a strong resource of Starquest owners, mechanics, enthusiasts, etc as I am . . . 2. Building a track car out of my car. I know, I know. It's not much yet, because the financial "rug" was pulled from underneath me just as I was about to tear into her. So she's got her drift/racing "livery", a racing seat, a rebuilt engine (thanks to Frenchii) and a few other things like a baffled oil pan without much else. 3. I don't expect "something for nothing". I'm a proponent of paying for QUALITY work, you can ask Frenchii, I try to go above and beyond as far as being a paying customer. I also am looking to learn, so if while you're working on the car you can show me what is being done, or you can point and say "turn that bolt and lift that part" that'd be the best. That way I can work on the car if/when it breaks at the track. In summary, it's just a way for me to meet some SQers, motorsports enthusiasts and mechanically savvy people. The three aren't required, nor are they preferred. As long as we have fun tinkering and talking shop. As with ANY track car, any help is greatly appreciated especially if that help comes in the form of EDUCATION. I love learning and don't mind getting my knuckles busted, hands burnt and fingernails dirty in the effort to learn more about my car. The perils of being a track-junky who never took the opportunity to learn mechanics, I guess. LOL! Thanks to any and all who may respond to this (in advance) David Adams #37 87 Chrysler Conquest TSi PS: Oh, and don't worry. Although she's stock, I still take her to the track. My philosophy is that seat-time is seat-time. Whether it's tuned or barely running.

See post 54 for 10-23-11 update. Preveios dyno links 2008 http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=82526&st=0&p=800328&fromsearch=1&&do=findComment&comment=800328 2010 http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104580&pid=1016633&st=0&&do=findComment&comment=1016633 TBI 18g tdo5h, 3" exhausts, cat and quite muffler. Intercooler upgrade, ported head, stock size ss valves, degreed hr70 cam. 7-1 pistons. 2g mas, 850 / 1400 injectors. Race gas blend. Tuned with Neo afc and Innovate logworks data logging. First run about 21 psi average. Boost was choppy. This is a spikey turbo. We leaned out the turbo spool up and tweaked the fuel a little up top. Last run 25 psi average. The boost trace smoothed out some as we raised the boost. We let it cool for the last pull and made sure the intercooler was fully cooled. But could not get 300. Made 300 uncorrected, does that count? The extra boost and tuning mostly helped the torque. I am really pleased with the torque. Edit, I also gained hp in the 3500-4800 rpm range. It was just the peak hp that stayed about the same. Shop wide band was reading .6-.7 leaner. I need to do a recalibration. I meant to do it beforehand. My car still has some of the 1.75 intercooler piping on it, that will be the next upgrade. Edit, this turbo really should have an external waste gate. That would probably add a little power as well as better boost control. My short block was pulled from a parts car with a sized motor. It turned out to be a fresh stock rebuild that spun a bearing and locked up when an oil line failed. I replaced the crank, bearings and head. The head was replaced again last year. I have been flogging it for 4 years. I do not understand why people do full rebuilds on motors with fixable problems and spend tons of money on everything but what actually makes the power. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/Data%20logs/DSC02132.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/Data%20logs/DSC02131.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/Data%20logs/18gtdo5hDyno.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/Data%20logs/18gDyno2ghz.jpg
