  1. has anyone done front steer with a rack before? any tips the a-arm brace and the a-arm are both in stock places but going with heim joints on both as well as on the sway bar end links. it's startin to get crowded up front. ideas?
  2. the map sounds like the logical route and a 3 bar at that. just to give myself room.

  4. it would be better for you to paint the one you have. the paint is not that good on this one plus it's 3000mi away. i'm in wilminton n.c. on the ocean.
  5. will the megasquirt run on mass or on map? i plan on forced induction at some point in the future and am still looking at the posibilities.
  6. first i would like to say thank you to mr. hibb for getting the pics up. now people can see what i am workin with. to the detractors i would say you must have never loved a car. if anyone saw my earlier posts with this 86 they will remember i blew the first motor up right before an autocross and the wiring went crazy right before the next. in a fit i pulled the motor,tranny, and wiring all from the car and swapped them for the motor you see here. all i can say is i will do what it takes. i'll be posting more pics as i get the rack and other parts in. thanx again.
  7. not bleeding money just willing to wait for the good stuff. i saw haltec but don't know anything about them other than the obvious. i like the gm version but you have to buy hacking software to do the work. still not sure need more info. plenty of mods left to do before i get to the wiring. thanx for the input. :character0269:

  9. I e-mailed mr.hibb with pics and he said he would host them. hope they give an idea what I am doing. I think they will . I also want info on ecu's that are better for turbo vs super charging. the painless harness can come with a cam. the gm can be controled by laptop. megasquirt can also be controled by laptop. I want to know if anyone has info that will make the case for either one.
  10. i just looked back and the other pics did not stay. need to make the files a bit smaller. maybe later. just know the chassis will be fine for the torque of a v-8.

  13. i need some info on what fuel injection systems work best so if anyone knows of person that could help that would be great. as far as the decision to fuel inject it's not up for discusion. i would like to show pics too......so what do i need to do to get them posted?
  14. i have been busy trying to install pics of my engine swap. it seems my pics are to large for the forum to handle. the basic project is a 5.3 vortec v-8 out of an 06 yukon with 6000 mi. on it. so far the motor is mounted the cross member modified the transmission installed the tunnel is modified and the roll bar is welded in. i am modifing the front end to be front steer with a rack. the suspension will also go under the knife with bearings where the bushings used to be and coil over conversion. this car is a rustrocket and has lived up to the name with the floors nearly falling out and the bolt having to be cut from the car. has anyone got an idea which computer will run this engine best? i'm torn between megasquirt and painless. love to show pics but not sure how. will update as the project progresses.
  15. trying to put this one in with the steel block so i can put a big turbo and some nos. for race day the car will be mild with handling upgrades. the rest of the time it will be a sneeky predator.
  16. my post is to ask for any info on swaping a 5.3 vortec into my 86 star. i have the t-10 and 11" bell to o with an f-body flywheel. i also have ls6 intake and many other low profile pieces. i am going to move the firewall back about 4" to give room for cooling as well as change weight dist. this car will get street time but i plan on autocrossing. so the question is what info is out there on this swap.
  17. i found the problem. i have a crack in my windshield and it funneled water into thedash which then dumped it right into my ecu area. ---water and wire (not the best of friends) caused a short in the injectors that made them fire constantly. ----remedy, i waited 1 week with the car sitting in the sun and she fired right up. ----next a little strategic caulking and she is water tight again. to all who helped, THANK YOU for dealing with a guy and his beatdown. :roll:
  18. i think i may have found the problem. the windshield has been leaking water when it rains onto the wiring harness and possibly the ecu. took the battery out of it to let everything dry out before trying to restart. now that i think of it the car did make some funny noises and buck a little the last time i drove in the rain. heres to hoping!
  19. another thing to check would be any leaking of the windshield. i found that my widshield has been leaking and the wiring under the dash has been getting wet as a result. still not sure if it was getting into the ecu yet. if you have this leak it could be shorting the injectors like it was in mine.just a thought.
  20. i have an 86 and have rebuilt the lower end to stock.the car is great that way if you don't plan to make alot of horse.if you do intend to modify the engine alot. you are going to want to go with 88-89 set up or even jump directly to aftermarket ecu and harness. this is just my opinion and there are alot of options to way. -how much horse? -road race/drag race? -car show duty? -daily driver?
  21. also the car ran friday at 7psi after taking all the parts off that i thought might be causing the problem. then when i turned it off it would not crank. i let it sit for a couple hours and it started and quickly stalled with the aplication of any throttle.
  22. i will give the cone filter a try in the morning.it may be just that simple and i would be so happy. this thing has driven me crazy. this is the second auto-x i have missed because of this car. i love the star but i realy want to drive.
