  1. The Clevite bearing catalog I have dated 2007 states AL-3 (bi-metal). The 2005 catalog did state TM-77 (tri-metal) but it was a typo. The new 2011 bearing catalog doesn't even show the 2.6L engine. !!!

Correction! :o The 2005 catalog wasn't a typo. I had it marked out and written in AL material. Just after the catalog was printed is when Clevite changed the material.

  2. You must be smoking something...Clevite 77 Tri- Metal bearings are still available for our cars.

    Bill

Trust me Bill. They are bi-metal from Clevite. Been that way for several years now. Unless you have old stock more that 5 or 10 years old.

  3. Clevite rod and main bearings are steel backed with aluminum alloy (bi-metal). Some years ago they were a trimetal bearing but have since changed. There are pros and cons with bi-metal ver. tri-metal bearings. I prefer trimetal bearings myself. I read somewhere that ACL had tri-metal bearings. But one member here ordered some in that were bi-metal. I have yet to find tri-metal bearings for the 2.6L engine.

When you change the bearing set-up on a bearing from a grooved upper bearing only to a full grooved bearings you increase oil supply. But decrease surface area for the crankshaft to ride on. I know some engine builders that have had issues with rod bearings on a small block chevy and they would go with full grooved main bearings. That would double the oil supply to the rods, but decrease the surface area for the mains. I don't see why you would want a grooved rod bearing.

Also the upper rod bearing half is the load side. And the lower main bearing half is the load side. They are usually the half to wear out first.

In the pic shown above it looks like the bearing were installed wrong, and there was trash in the oil.

  4. never do such a thing on an efi car. the computer gets it's power from the battery disconnecting the terminal while the car is running is an awesome way to fry your computer.

leave that to your 1970 buick.

the real answer is it would run either way, but something will probably fry pretty soon.

What he said. Removing the Batt. while engine is running could fry the Alt. I've run an engine for a few days without the Alt. with no issues.

Also on some engines when the battery gets below 10 or 11 volts the computer won't work.

  5. Same here. Nothing but a Napa Gold goes in my cars. It's made by Wix and re-branded for Napa. And yes it has the anti-drainback valve.

Same here. Also the Carquest filters are made by WIX. Carquest Blue is same as Napa Gold. I think I have the color correct.

  6. I may have a lead on getting NEW turbos. If possible I need OEM, and other manafactures parts numbers on turbos. I'll need numbers from the 12a up to the 20G turbos. If this works out Dad would be the contact on buying them. We'll let you know if it's going to happen.
  7. as the title says, does anyone know what the length of a stock head bolt is? I would like to measure it with a mike and see if it has stretched at all. so i can tell if i need new ones or not, i did not see this spec in the service manual but it may be there somewhere?

    1.25 x 12mm x 120mm

  8. some shops try to install valve guides at room temp,, this leads to the guides expanding the head material and later come loose in the head ,,,guides have to be frozzen before eing install'd this shrinks the guides alowing them to press in the head and then get tighter as they match the head temp

Do as what Shelby stated. But don't leave them in the cooler very long as in overnight. They could absorb moisture and have frost the the OD. Recommend leaving them in for only 15 or so mins. Dad can comment on this issue better.

  9. so i got my head rebuilt by scotty dont and he pointed out that i have some random cam that i have no clue what it is! its an amc with Hydraulic lifter. cam has "ep 107" "d1" ("cwc" with a purple marking) "A30" with a green/blue marking. i have pictures of it but can't get them to work. i can email them to someone if you can ost them. Any help is appreciated

That is a camshaft made by EPC. It is a mechanical stock replacement camshaft. Can you double check the A30 casting? It is most likely an A20 which has an .020 oversize journals. They made a A20, and A40, but not a A30. A30 would be .030 oversize journals.

  10. Wow alot of replies the reason i ask is a friend of mine is rebuilding his engine and his crank bearings are .50 and the rod bearings their from engine pro but can't find these any were this is the part number 12-1945AL-.50 any help. Checked dads site but can't find these

Part number 12-1945AL-.50 is Clevites main bearing set MS1945AL50mm.

  11. Anyone have any contacts on a used turbo that would fit a 2002 SAAB 9-5 3.0L DOHC. Odd thing is that the turbo and exhaust manifold is one piece. Car came in with exhaust leak, after taking the lines off the cold side it fell (broke) off the hot side.

This car belongs to my female cousin. I told her good thing she's pretty since this wasn't a good investment.

  12. How about the time I called an AZ some 10+ miles away about some brake rotors. Guy said he had them in stock. I asked him to check for sure. A min later he said he had them in his hands. After I got there they didn't have them. I asked the same guy what happened, he just ran off to the back to hide.

Or how one store manager will argue with you about anything,.....Anyway I've had issues for MANY years with AZ. OK prices, but been told so many lies from personel there. Upper management sucks also.

  13. have you checkd the volvo forums. my brother is on turbo bricks all the time. if youd like i can se if he has an extra set of valves. is it turbo or not.

Non turbo. I've found some at a great price on eBay. But I've pushed this project off in the back for now. Just wanted to update you guys.
