ProcessedMeatMan
I just picked this car up over the Thanksgiving break. It's a very clean California car with zero rust. It's got 114,500 miles on it. ONly real problems with it include:- Won't pass CA smog (not sure exactly why just yet)- Wonky electrical issues. The meter constantly pings between 12 and 15 and every light in the car pulses when it does so.- The motor for the Driver's side seat belt doesn't work.- Funny enough, the rear wiper and fluid mechanisms work like new, but the front wipers won't work lol- The rear makes some weird noises when I make turns... I'm not sure why, but I think it might have something to do with the car being lowered a bit too far.- fog lights are OOC- Some clunky noises when shifting to 2nd and 3rd. Other than that, the car runs awesome! Everything in it is stock. It had the head and pistons replaced at 89k and a new clutch at 105k. I'm the third owner. The original owner and the second knew each other abnd maintained a complete (no kidding) history of vehicle repair. I have every pieve of paperwork documenting every bit of work done to this vehicle, including the original purchase papers and manual. Hell, they even kept an oil change record! The car has been very well taken care of.it had a new paint job about 6 years ago, but was never followed up with a clearcoat or wax. It looks decent in the pics, but rather shoddy in person. I plan to get it re-painted once I get it running tip-top. I don't post on these forums much, but I lurk here very often. There's tons of excellent material here for a start-up newbie like myself to get his bearings. Thanks for making such a kick-a** site! Here are a few pics I took the day I brought it home (I know the plate is still visible, but they're dead so I'm not concerned ) http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/9137/picture370yf7.jpghttp://img144.imageshack.us/img144/6141/picture377ud1.jpghttp://img179.imageshack.us/img179/3751/picture374vn2.jpghttp://img299.imageshack.us/img299/7474/picture378fc1.jpghttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8158/picture382om8.jpg I can't wait to fix this puppy up!I had an '85 Starion about 6 years ago, but it was a serious P.O.S. I only bought it because it was $400 and I needed a car badly. I was in college at the time and couldn't afford to keep it on the road, so I sold it on Ebay... and regret it to this day! Turns out it was an 85.5 I'm still kicking myself in the head. Here's an old pic of that car: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/3435/85id0.gif Thanks for looking! I'll try to post as I progress, but it might be slow going since I'm new at all of this stuff. My first priority is getting the electrical problems toned down. I know '87s are notorious for it, but I'm hoping there's something I can do.
soulja620
nice pickup man, The rear weird noises could be from worn down axles and what not...

ProcessedMeatMan
nice car your cat propably to a crap on you  if trying to pass smog make sure u have a 192* thermostat good cats and no rips in your intake piping Thanks for the heads up on the thermostat. Though, as it turns out, the exhaust piping was basically shredded all along the length. Looks like the previous owner tried to patch up a crack between the engine and exhaust with duct tape and tin foil. No joke! The cat was so full of crap I'm gonna have to replace it as well.My alternator, clutch and flywheel are jacked too. Other than that, there's not many more major issues with this car! Fattire4me
Nice car! It sounds like you may also have a bad alternator. (When mine went bad I had the same flickering that you were describing)
